SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Loved ones of the 13 people who lost their lives in the June 12 floods gathered at the Rock Church on Thursday, where Commissioner Tommy Calvert issued a proclamation marking June 12 as a day of remembrance in their honor.<\/p>\n
Tyson Tufono, the son of Matthew Tufono, who died just one day after his 51st birthday, described his father as his superhero, saying losing him changed his family’s lives. Tufono acknowledged the support his family has received since the tragedy and noted the city’s $45 million budget allocation for drainage projects as a good start. However, he expressed a desire for more support for others affected.<\/p>\n
“I know that the priority is make sure it doesn’t happen again, but, you know, don’t forget about the people who are affected,” Tufono said. <\/p>\n
City Manager Eric Walsh stated that crews have already begun temporary repairs but emphasized the need for permanent solutions. This follows last week’s announcement from Bexar County Commissioners about a new flood warning system. <\/p>\n
“We did include $11.4 million in the proposed capital budget to address the flood damage on Beitel Creek, Old O’ Connor and Old Grissom Road, as the mayor shared with you several weeks ago….and we’re anticipating it will continue to be our priority in the second special session,” Walsh said. <\/p>\n
