{"id":147078,"date":"2025-08-15T06:10:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T06:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/147078\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T06:10:17","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T06:10:17","slug":"officials-break-ground-on-new-palisades-malibu-ymca-after-wildfire-destruction-nbc-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/147078\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials break ground on new Palisades-Malibu YMCA after wildfire destruction \u2013 NBC Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the Palisades-Malibu YMCA was destroyed by January&#8217;s wildfires, elected officials and community members broke ground Thursday on a new facility expected to once again serve as a vital center for youth development.<\/p>\n<p>During a news conference on Thursday, Victor Dominguez, president and CEO\u00a0of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles, also announced the launch of a $25\u00a0million capital campaign to help rebuild the Palisades-Malibu YMCA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0organization plans to build an expanded dual campus on Via de la Paz and Simon Meadow.<\/p>\n<p>The Via de la Paz site will restore the facility that was destroyed earlier this year, while the Simon Meadow facility is expected to allow the\u00a0YMCA to expand programming and serve more families with permanent indoor-outdoor spaces.<\/p>\n<p>To kick off the campaign, Los Angeles County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, who\u00a0represents Pacific Palisades and Malibu, made a commitment of $10 million for the project. Additionally, Bob Lowe, CEO of Lowe Enterprises, a real estate\u00a0investment firm based in Los Angeles, is expected to provide a \u201csizeable\u201d\u00a0donation to the campaign, according to YMCA officials.<\/p>\n<p>The combined campuses will be renamed the Lowe Family YMCA, who have\u00a0been longtime members and who pledged to support the rebuilding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Words cannot describe our gratitude to Supervisor Horvath and the Lowe family for spearheading this gift to the community,&#8221; Dominguez said in a\u00a0statement.\u00a0\u201cAs the center for community well-being with 28 centers across the\u00a0LA region, we have always been a place where everyone belongs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lowe, who is a board member of the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles,\u00a0said the facility in Palisades-Malibu has been an important part of his family,\u00a0going back three generations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so pleased that the Lowe family can help ensure the Y will be able to serve the Palisades families now and for generations in the future,&#8221; Lowe said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Horvath shared that she was proud to invest in the rebuilding efforts\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday&#8217;s launch is more than just a construction milestone &#8212; it&#8217;s a symbol of recovery, resilience and hope,&#8221; Horvath said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Karen Bass participated in Thursday&#8217;s event. She emphasized that\u00a0rebuilding Palisades includes restoring community spaces and local institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith today&#8217;s announcements, we&#8217;re taking another step forward to\u00a0rebuilding the Palisades more resiliently than before, from residential\u00a0properties to key community spaces like the Pali Y, so they can continue\u00a0serving the community for generations to come,&#8221; Bass said.<\/p>\n<p>According to YMCA, the Via de la Paz campus is expected to receive\u00a0partial support from the Federal Emergency Management Agency&#8217;s Public\u00a0Assistance program.
