According to sources, the San Jose Sharks and the city of San Jose are getting close to an agreement regarding a new lease at the SAP Center.<\/p>\n
SHD has been told that a deal with the city is \u201cimminent.\u201d The next step is to go to the city council for approval.<\/p>\n
In May, San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan told the<\/a> Mercury News that the city would heavily invest in the SAP Center.<\/p>\n \u201cHere in San Jose, we\u2019ve had a hometown team that has helped put San Jose on the map for over 30 years,\u201d Mahan said. \u201cWhen the city council officially approves our new agreement, they\u2019ll be here for at least 25 more.\u201d<\/p>\n Advertisement. Scroll to continue reading.<\/p>\n Sharks president Jonathan Becher told fans during a season ticket holder event back in January that talks with the city<\/a> were positive.<\/p>\n Becher says “general discussions” with the city have gone well to extend the lease agreement with the city of San Jose, but says there are a lot of details. Says he wants SAP Center to be center of SJ. With an agreement of a new deal reportedly on the horizon, the \u201cheavy investments\u201d Mahan spoke about in May can truly be put into motion. <\/p>\n While the SAP Center is home to the Sharks, it actually hosts more non-hockey events than hockey events.<\/p>\n SHD wasn\u2019t informed of any timeline for when the agreement, if\/when finalized, will be presented to the City Council.<\/p>\n Advertisement.
