{"id":147706,"date":"2025-08-15T11:41:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T11:41:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/147706\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T11:41:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T11:41:11","slug":"grand-canyon-lodges-historic-sculpture-is-on-the-move-where-hell-come-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/147706\/","title":{"rendered":"Grand Canyon Lodge\u2019s historic sculpture is on the move; where he\u2019ll come home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM, AZ (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A beloved, historic sculpture from the Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim, thought to be lost forever due to the Dragon Bravo Fire, is safe and on the move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">According to the Grand Canyon National Park Service, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2025\/07\/21\/historic-sculpture-feared-be-destroyed-dragon-bravo-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2025\/07\/21\/historic-sculpture-feared-be-destroyed-dragon-bravo-fire\/\">Brighty the Burro partially survived the flames<\/a> of the massive wildfire. Crews took photos with the sculpture with most of the top half intact.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">NPS said he is getting ready for his journey to the South Rim, where he\u2019ll call the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/grca\/learn\/historyculture\/muscol.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/grca\/learn\/historyculture\/muscol.htm\">agency\u2019s Museum Collection<\/a> home. Specialists will assess his condition and figure out if he can be restored to his former glory, or if a new version will take his place at the Grand Canyon Lodge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Nearly a month ago, the Grand Canyon Historical Society shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/grandcanyonhistory\/posts\/pfbid02qdWjp69VcEDsaKYcWvcL7gdV6KoViaFPrhwBaH1EUnFhYEAg4Uz9qSpfZ1xiQPBel\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/grandcanyonhistory\/posts\/pfbid02qdWjp69VcEDsaKYcWvcL7gdV6KoViaFPrhwBaH1EUnFhYEAg4Uz9qSpfZ1xiQPBel\" target=\"_blank\">an image on Facebook<\/a> that appeared to show Brighty badly burned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The bronze burro, dedicated to a real-life donkey who lived in the Grand Canyon in the early 1900s, had been in the lodge for more than 50 years, with hikers often rubbing its nose before heading onto a hike.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">It\u2019s unclear when the fate of the sculpture will be decided. \u201cOne thing\u2019s for sure, Brighty\u2019s legacy as a North Rim icon will live on,\u201d park officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">See a spelling or grammatical error in our story? <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/page\/send-us-your-feedback\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Please click here to report it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Do you have a photo or video of a breaking news story?
