{"id":148336,"date":"2025-08-15T17:15:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T17:15:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/148336\/"},"modified":"2025-08-15T17:15:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T17:15:11","slug":"the-taliban-ban-afghan-women-from-takeover-anniversary-celebrations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/148336\/","title":{"rendered":"The Taliban ban Afghan women from takeover anniversary celebrations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD (AP) \u2014 Afghan women were barred from attending celebrations marking the fourth anniversary of the Taliban\u2019s return to power on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Some 10,000 men gathered across the capital, Kabul, to watch Defense Ministry helicopters scatter flowers to the crowds below. <\/p>\n<p>Three of the six \u201cflower shower\u201d locations were already off-limits to women because they have been prohibited from entering parks and recreational areas since November 2022. <\/p>\n<p>The Taliban <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-timeline-four-years-anniversary-cc0741771e66ed2de2fe8a0e97f7d0f7\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">seized Afghanistan<\/a> on Aug. 15, 2021, as the U.S. and NATO withdrew their forces at the end of a two-decade war.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, they have imposed <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-vice-virtue-ministry-beards-7df5dccce7b78dea3355337e187a9135\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">their interpretation of Islamic law<\/a> on daily life, including sweeping restrictions on women and girls, based on edicts from their leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.<\/p>\n<p>Friday\u2019s anniversary program, which also comprised speeches from key Cabinet members, was only for men. An outdoor sports performance, initially expected to feature Afghan athletes, did not take place.<\/p>\n<p>Rights groups, foreign governments, and <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/un-afghanistan-taliban-girls-education-0fc6d2fa803c093d424a60e41149ad5f\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the U.N. have condemned<\/a> the Taliban for their treatment of women and girls, who remain barred from education beyond sixth grade, many jobs, and most public spaces.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the United Afghan Women\u2019s Movement for Freedom staged an indoor protest on Friday in northeast Takhar province against Taliban rule.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis day marked the beginning of a black domination that excluded women from work, education, and social life,\u201d the movement said in a statement shared with The Associated Press. \u201cWe, the protesting women, remember this day not as a memory, but as an open wound of history, a wound that has not yet healed. The fall of Afghanistan was not the fall of our will. We stand, even in the darkness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was also an indoor protest in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. <\/p>\n<p>Afghan women held up signs that said \u201cForgiving the Taliban is an act of enmity against humanity\u201d and \u201cAugust 15th is a dark day.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The women were fully veiled, except for their eyes, in the photographs.<\/p>\n<p>Taliban leader warns God will punish the ungrateful<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, the <a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-takeover-four-years-d021b123d4ff7dc847d2801253b7b785\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Taliban leader<\/a> warned God would severely punish Afghans who were ungrateful for Islamic rule in the country, according to a statement.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link AnClick-LinkEnhancement\" data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/afghanistan-taliban-70bf3af0a3ee5d7e876b1f1e35f71682\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Akhundzada<\/a>, who is seldom seen in public, said in a statement that Afghans had endured hardships and made sacrifices for almost 50 years so that Islamic law, or Sharia, could be established. Sharia had saved people from \u201ccorruption, oppression, usurpation, drugs, theft, robbery, and plunder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are great divine blessings that our people should not forget and, during the commemoration of Victory Day (Aug. 15), express great gratitude to Allah Almighty so that the blessings will increase,\u201d said Akhundzada in comments shared on the social platform X. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf, against God\u2019s will, we fail to express gratitude for blessings and are ungrateful for them, we will be subjected to the severe punishment of Allah Almighty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Cabinet members gave speeches listing the administration\u2019s achievements and highlighting diplomatic progress.
