(WEAU) &#8211; The La Crosse Fire Department is alerting the public of an increase in drug overdoses in the La Crosse community. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to a press release from the La Crosse Fire Department, within the last three weeks, July 21, 2025, to August 12, 2025, there were an above-average number of suspected overdose response calls from EMS. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cEven with lower death rates this year, complacency in drug use is a dangerous trap- fentanyl can lurk in any illicit substance, from pills to powders. Always test for fentanyl before use, keep Narcan on hand, and ensure a sober bystander is present to administer it or call 911. These precautions aren\u2019t just safety measures; they\u2019re lifelines where one wrong dose can be deadly,\u201d Dr. Christopher Eberlein, EMS Medical Director said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The La Crosse Fire Department says to always call 9-1-1 if you think someone is overdosing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The La Crosse Fire Department is also advising people to check-in with friends or family who use drugs and to get safer use supplies, such as fentanyl test strips and Naloxone. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 WEAU.
