The president of CBS News is preparing for a sharp-elbowed shakeup of the network\u2019s struggling \u201cEvening News\u201d broadcast \u2014 even as his own position atop the network looks shaky, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n
Tom Cibrowski \u2014 a former top executive at ABC who was lured to CBS in March<\/a> \u2014 is poised as soon as this week to eliminate one of the nightly broadcast\u2019s two anchors, either John Dickerson or Maurice DuBois, sources said.<\/p>\n At the same time, insiders said Cibrowski looks ready to oust \u201cEvening News\u201d executive producer Guy Campanile \u2014 a gruff Yonkers native and veteran of \u201c60 Minutes\u201d who lately has locked horns with his new boss, according to sources.<\/p>\n Tom Cibrowski \u2014 a former top executive at ABC who was lured to CBS in March \u2014 is poised as soon as this week to eliminate one of the nightly broadcast\u2019s two anchors Getty Images<\/p>\n \u201cGuy thinks he knows better than Tom\u201d \u2014 and may soon get kicked back to \u201c60 Minutes\u201d under the show\u2019s newly installed executive producer, Tanya Simon, one source said.\u00a0<\/p>\n Insiders said Cibrowski appears to making a play to keep his job with a series of bold, 11th-hour moves as CBS parent Paramount closes its merger with the Hollywood studio Skydance<\/a>. They added, however, that Cibrowski may simply end up as a hatchet man for incoming bosses \u2014 before he ends up a casualty himself, either by getting fired or effectively demoted.<\/p>\n As previously reported by The Post,<\/a> Cibrowski has also gotten static from \u201cCBS Mornings\u201d executive producer Shawna Thomas \u2014 a close ally of network star Gayle King \u2014 and her job could be on the line, too, insiders told The Post.<\/p>\n CBS News declined to comment.<\/p>\n As reported by The Post, Jeff Shell, the new president of the merged Skydance-Paramount<\/a>, said last week that he was interviewing news executives for Cibrowski\u2019s job. That comes after rumors that Skydance CEO David Ellison is in talks with journalist Bari Weiss, as well as former CBS News president David Rhodes, to join the network.\u00a0<\/p>\n At the \u201cEvening News,\u201d insiders said DuBois looked poised to land the sole anchor spot. A former WCBS New York local anchor, sources said Dubois has appeared better-suited for the job than Dickerson, who is better known for his political reporting chops.<\/p>\n John Dickerson or Maurice DuBois could be on the chopping block, according to sources.
