Little mention was made that the final product comes 18 years after design work began. But, fair enough, we got our bridge back.<\/p>\n<p>The bridge isn\u2019t much to look at it \u2013 strips of galvanized steel and concrete \u2013 but it\u2019s functional attributes are attractive.<\/p>\n<p>They include (soon to be?) painted bike paths and pedestrain friendly crosswalks. Before it closed, an estimated 23,000 people per day used the bridge (by foot, pedal and motorized vehicle). Its reopening could not come soon enough for business owners on both sides of the Schuylkill. Development in Graduate Hospital or \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/southofsouth.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">South of South<\/a>\u201d areas are <a href=\"http:\/\/philly.brownstoner.com\/2010\/08\/developmentorama_near_south_st_1.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reportedly scheduled to begin<\/a> soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"South Street Bridge Opening November 6, 2010 A jogger heads west on the new South Street Bridge.
