{"id":149429,"date":"2025-08-16T02:51:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T02:51:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/149429\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T02:51:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T02:51:09","slug":"jonathan-kuminga-doesnt-want-to-be-warriors-pawn-nbc-sports-bay-area-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/149429\/","title":{"rendered":"Jonathan Kuminga doesn\u2019t want to be Warriors\u2019 \u2018pawn\u2019 \u2013 NBC Sports Bay Area &#038; California"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It appears that one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/k\/kuminjo01.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonathan Kuminga\u2019s<\/a> top priorities regarding a potential return to the Warriors is security.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Anthony Slater reported Friday on \u201cNBA Today\u201d that the fifth-year NBA veteran forward will not be returning to Golden State if he doesn\u2019t believe he is in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/jonathan-kuminga-team-relationship\/1866020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the organization\u2019s long-term plans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKuminga wants more of a player-friendly deal &#8212; more of a signal that he\u2019s a building block and not just a trade asset; the word I\u2019ve heard from the Kuminga side is \u2018pawn,\u2019\u201d Slater said. \u201cHe doesn\u2019t want to sign this two-year, $45 million deal with a team option where he is clearly just being used to be traded mid-season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s not something he wants to sign up for.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Kuminga, like most players, doesn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsportsbayarea.com\/nba\/golden-state-warriors\/jonathan-kuminga-sign-and-trade-2\/1865787\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">want to be trade bait<\/a> &#8212; he wants a home.<\/p>\n<p>The Bay has been just that for the 22-year-old, since the Warriors selected Kuminga with the No. 7 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. But Golden State and Kuminga have yet to strike a deal.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Slater explained what aspects could change Kuminga&#8217;s mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, if you\u2019re talking about a three-year deal (or) something with a player option that shows him a little bit more commitment, that\u2019s something he\u2019d be interested in,\u201d Slater said.<\/p>\n<p>Time is running out for the Warriors to extend the hypothetical player-friendly deal to Kuminga.
