Both vegetables fit into a healthy diet, depending on whether you prefer the mildly sweet flavor of zucchinis or the slightly bitter and refreshing crunch of raw cucumbers.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Cucumbers Are Slightly More Hydrating  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> <strong>While <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/zucchini-benefits-11770257\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">zucchini<\/a> and other summer squashes are 94% water, <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/cucumber-11724099\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cucumbers<\/a> are slightly more hydrating with 96% water.<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_8-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Cucumber is similar to <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/benefits-of-watermelon-11750170\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">watermelon<\/a> in terms of the hydration it offers, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/cahnr.uconn.edu\/person\/sharon-gray\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sherry Gray, MPH, RD<\/a>, a registered dietitian and a nutrition educator at the University of Connecticut.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Since cucumbers are typically eaten raw, they retain their water content, while cooking zucchini can reduce it.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Zucchinis Have More Fiber  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Both cucumber and zucchini are rich in <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/high-fiber-vegetables-11704101\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fiber<\/a>, a carbohydrate that <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/what-to-eat-when-blood-sugar-is-high-5120368\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helps manage blood sugar<\/a> and <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/foods-to-relieve-constipation-11706190\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"3\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prevent constipation<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Zucchini has a bit more fiber than cucumber: <strong>A 100-gram portion of unpeeled zucchini has 0.8 grams of fiber, while the same amount of unpeeled cucumber has 0.5 grams<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Most of the fiber is in the skin of the zucchini or the cucumber. So you would want to have the skin,&#8221; Gray said.\n<\/p>\n<p>  More Vitamin C in Zucchini, More Vitamin K in Cucumber  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_22-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> In addition to fiber, zucchinis contain <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/foods-with-more-potassium-than-a-banana-11719064\" link-destination-recommendation-ai=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">higher amounts of potassium<\/a>, magnesium, folate, and vitamins A, C, and E.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Zucchini does have more nutritional value. It has more vitamins and minerals than a cucumber does,&#8221; Gray said.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_26-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> But, for vitamin K, pick cucumber over zucchini, she added.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_28-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Most adults need between 90 and 120 micrograms (mcg)\u00a0of <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/vitamin-k2-8709331\" link-destination-recommendation=\"true\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">vitamin K daily to support blood clotting and bone building<\/a>. A cup of peeled cucumber has 9.6 mcg, and the same amount of unpeeled zucchini has 5.3 mcg.\n<\/p>\n<p>  Zucchinis Are a More Versatile Ingredient  <\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_31-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Most people eat cucumbers raw or pickled, but zucchinis can be grilled, saut\u00e9d, stir-fried, added to meatballs, used as noodles, or folded into baked goods.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_33-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Wash them before eating or preparing, even if you are going to peel them,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eatrightpro.org\/about-us\/for-media\/meet-our-spokespeople\/jennifer-bruning\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jen Bruning, MS, RDN, LDN<\/a>, a Chicago-based registered dietitian and a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, told Verywell in an email.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_35-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Scrub the vegetables under running water to remove any dirt or bacteria. It is not recommended to use soap or a produce wash on fruits and vegetables because this may get absorbed into the produce.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_37-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> You can store cucumbers in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for a week, and keep unwashed zucchini in the fridge for up to two weeks. Gray said neither one freezes well due to the high water content.
