In Arizona, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/02505.htm\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.azleg.gov\/ars\/13\/02505.htm\">prison contraband involving drugs<\/a> is a class 2 felony. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">According to the department, Byers submitted paperwork at the jail for an inmate, but since multiple pages were discolored, a field drug test was conducted. The papers then tested positive for synthetic cannabis, more commonly known as \u201cSpice\u201d or \u201cK2.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"MCSO said a K-9 helped alert them to drugs at the 4th Avenue Jail on Aug. 14, 2025.\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/RDVEJFZ6HZBJ3C5GKL2Y5RKS5M.jpg\" width=\"980\" height=\"653\" \/>MCSO said a K-9 helped alert them to drugs at the 4th Avenue Jail on Aug. 14, 2025.(Maricopa County Sheriff&#8217;s Office)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Authorities then conducted a coordinated search of the jail, and a K-9 alerted detention officers to drugs that appeared similar to those brought in by Byers. Those papers also tested positive for synthetic cannabis.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Deputies also conducted a search warrant of Byers\u2019 home, where they allegedly found several pieces of evidence linking him to the crime.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">\u201cKeeping drugs out of our jail facility is one of my highest priorities,\u201d said Sheriff Jerry Sheridan in a written statement. \u201cThe safety of our staff, inmates, and the integrity of our facilities rely on a zero-tolerance approach.
