{"id":150813,"date":"2025-08-16T15:26:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T15:26:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/150813\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T15:26:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T15:26:18","slug":"cuban-born-biotech-honcho-enters-crowded-nyc-mayoral-race-seeking-to-upset-mamdani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/150813\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuban-born biotech honcho enters crowded NYC mayoral race seeking to upset Mamdani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>He\u2019s the anti-Mamdani. <\/p>\n<p>A Cuban-born biotech entrepreneur decided to make a longshot bid for NYC mayor because he loathes the radical left-wing ideas pushed by socialist <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/09\/us-news\/cuomo-bashes-rich-person-mamdani-for-hogging-2300-from-homeless-new-yorkers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">frontrunner Zohran Mamdani<\/a> \u2014 and saw just how dangerous they are in real life, he told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was raised in a socialist communist society, so I am the antithesis of Zohran Mamdani\u2019s ideology,\u201d declared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hernandezfornyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joseph Hernandez<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, he\u2019s a motivator for me to fight in this race. I despise socialism. I am a believer in the American dream. I\u2019m a believer in capitalism. It\u2019s not perfect, but it\u2019s lifted more people out of poverty than any other ideology,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Hernandez dismissed the notion his run for mayor would split votes between those seeking an alternative to the current frontrunner, socialist Zohran Mamdani Hernandez for NYC \/ Facebook<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez \u2014 a 52-year-old Lower East Side resident who immigrated to the U.S. at the age of seven with his family to escape Fidel Castro\u2019s communist rule \u2014 entered the race as an independent just over a month ago after collecting enough signatures to get on the November ballot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI doing this because I love the city and want to make it better,\u201d Hernandez said. \u201cI don\u2019t have baggage like [many of the other candidates]. I\u2019m a businessman; I\u2019m logical; I know technology; and know how to structure budgets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The registered Republican heads Manhattan-based healthcare and technology investment firm Blue Water Venture Partners<\/p>\n<p>If elected, he\u2019s vowed to hire 10,000 new cops along with other public safety improvements; convert unused office space into affordable housing and use artificial intelligence to improve city services. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cuomo is a registered Democrat running for mayor of New York City as an independent. Stephen Yang for the New York Post<\/p>\n<p>The huge underdog joins a crowded field that besides Mamdani, the Democratic nominee, includes Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa, Mayor Eric Adams, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and defense lawyer Jim Walden. Adams and Cuomo are registered Dems running as independents; Walden is a registered Independent.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez said he\u2019s raised roughly $300,000 since entering the campaign in late June and has already secured an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supermarketnews.com\/legislation-regulatory-news\/new-york-city-bodega-owners-oppose-city-run-grocery-stores\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">endorsement from the Bodega and Small Business Group, <\/a>which vehemently opposes Mamdani\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/04\/05\/us-news\/socialist-nyc-mayoral-candidates-city-run-supermarket-plan-under-fire\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">proposal to create Soviet-style, city-run supermarkets.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>A Sienna poll this week showed Mamdani, the\u00a0Democratic nominee, had 44% of the vote, following by former Gov. Andrew Cuomo with 25%, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa with 12% and Mayor Eric Adams with 7%. The remaining 12% support another candidate or are undecided.<\/p>\n<p>Hernandez rejected the idea that he might be splitting votes even further among moderates and conservatives seeking an alternative to Mamdani\u2013 and thereby increasing the socialist\u2019s chances of winning. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m doing this because I live in the city and I think it\u2019s so spinning out of control \u2013 and I think I\u2019m the most qualified candidate,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m a businessman, I\u2019m logical, I know technology.
