{"id":150949,"date":"2025-08-16T16:41:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T16:41:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/150949\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T16:41:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T16:41:10","slug":"nyc-cops-battle-flames-to-save-residents-barking-dog-in-coney-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/150949\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC cops battle flames to save residents, barking dog in Coney Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neither smoke nor flame stopped two NYPD officers from saving two men \u2014 and their labradoodle \u2014  from a raging fire in Coney Island this week, dramatic video obtained by The Post shows.<\/p>\n<p>The cops, part of the city\u2019s new quality of life teams, lived up to their job description \u2014 and then some \u2014 on Aug. 10, after they spotted a plume of smoke from West 36th Street near Canal Avenue while they were on patrol.<\/p>\n<p>A neighbor helped them locate the burning single family home and get into the backyard, where massive flames were engulfing a wall, the video shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police Officer Andy Gao smashes a glass sliding door to get into the burning home. New York City Police Department<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saw the fire raging at the back of the house,\u201d Officer Andy Guo, of the 60th Precinct, told The Post.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was no time to wait for the fire department,\u201d said Police Officer Chris De Sciora. \u201cWe heard the dog barking. We had to get in by any means possible. The back wall was going up quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The partners, who both grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from the Police Academy together in 2016,\u00a0 began trying to break down a rear glass sliding door to get inside, the video shows.<\/p>\n<p>When the cops got to the Coney Island, home it was partially engulfed in flames. New York City Police Department<\/p>\n<p>The pup, a golden labradoodle named Sea Biscuit, was wildly barking until his owners woke up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen we heard a gentleman yelling inside,\u201d Guo, 34, said. \u201cWe made a quick decision to just hop right in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The video shows Guo shatter the glass with pole and vault inside first, followed by his partner.<\/p>\n<p>The dog, Sea Biscuit, was barking steadily during the fire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had to get access to the house,\u201d Guo said. \u201cMy mind and body was just on autopilot. I didn\u2019t think too hard, I just had to get in there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Once they were inside, they found two men, who were inside sleeping, and led them out of the home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey didn\u2019t notice the house was on fire,\u201d Guo said. \u201cI feel like if we had waited, who knows what could have happened?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Officer Andy Guo jumped in first and suffered cuts on his arms. Obtained by the New York Post<\/p>\n<p>The dog was still barking when the cops got inside.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were able to corner the dog,\u201d De Sciora said. \u201cThere was really no time to think. Training and tactics took over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire is under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Police Officer Chris De Sciora joined the NYPD because of the Sept. 11 atacks. Obtained by the New York Post<\/p>\n<p>The residents and the dog were unharmed. Both police officers were treated for smoke inhalation. Guo was also cut from the sliding glass door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI got some scratches on my arms,\u201d Guo said. \u201cI didn\u2019t notice it was bleeding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>De Sciora, 31, who grew up in Bay Ridge, joined the NYPD because of the Sept. 11 terrorism attacks of 2001.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven though I was little at the time, I knew that after those tragic events I wanted to do whatever I could to help protect the city I love,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Guo joined because of a desire to help the community where he grew up, he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the end of the day for me, I just wanted to help people,\u201d said Guo, who grew up in Canarsie. \u201cI\u2019ve always been a Brooklkyn boy.
