Bill Maher<\/a> on Friday\u2019s \u201cReal Time<\/a>\u201d commended past Republican<\/a> guests for coming on his show \u2014 and slammed numerous high-profile Democrats<\/a> he said were too \u201cafraid\u201d to do the same. Maher made an exception for Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> (D-Calif.), who appeared as recently as March.<\/p>\n

Maher named several Democrats in his monologue, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton<\/a>, former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> and former Presidents Bill Clinton<\/a> and Barack Obama<\/a>. He first poked fun at Newsom, however, for his \u201cperfect hair.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHey, at least Gavin comes here,\u201d said Maher<\/a>. \u201cPeople ask me all the time, \u2018Why haven\u2019t you ever had Hillary or Bill Clinton on? Why didn\u2019t you have Kamala on during the last campaign?\u2019 You think we don\u2019t ask? We ask these people every week. They say no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher noted that it took eight years \u201cand a petition\u201d to get Obama on his show<\/a> in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd these are people, all people, I voted for,\u201d the \u201cReal Time\u201d host continued. \u201cThink about that: they\u2019re afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them. The Republicans? They show up, and when they do, they take their beating like a man.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher went on to play a montage of him sparring with past Republican guests, including former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy<\/a>, Trump\u2019s former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr<\/a>, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis<\/a>, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz<\/a> and former Trump aide Steve Bannon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He then reiterated that he \u201cwould love\u201d to have more notable Democrats on the show, specifically naming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> (D-N.Y.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren<\/a> (D-Mass.) and New York City\u2019s Democratic mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I can\u2019t subpoena the guests,\u201d joked Maher. \u201cAnd I can\u2019t fix that what the Democrats are scared of, more than anything else\u2026 is being primaried from the far-left, even though most Democrats are not far-left. They\u2019re mild-mannered and moderate, at least in my bathhouse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Warren has notably appeared on the show six times<\/a> between 2009 and 2017.<\/p>\n

Other notable members of the Democratic Party who have sat down with Maher include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi<\/a>, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer<\/a> (D-N.Y.), former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg<\/a> and Obama\u2019s former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Maher appeared to suggest on Friday that Democrats might win more elections if they came on his show. He cited former CIA analyst Sen. Elissa Slotkin<\/a> (D-Mich.), who urged her party in April<\/a> to shed their \u201cweak and woke\u201d reputation and \u201cfucking retake the flag.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s right,\u201d said Maher. \u201cPeople vote on instinct. They can smell fear a swing state away.\u201d<\/p>\n
