Bowman qualified ninth for Saturday\u2019s <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/pro\/category\/nascar\/news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NASCAR<\/a><\/strong> Cup Series Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway but was told by Hamlin he had to drop to the back for \u201cdelaying the start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAre you kidding me?\u201d Bowman said, via <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jeff_gluck\/status\/1956862909822222762\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Jeff Gluck<\/strong> of The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I\u2019m f*cking with you. All good,\u201d Hamlin responded.<\/p>\n<p>TV either didn\u2019t hear Hamlin\u2019s response or didn\u2019t realize it was a joke. They reported Bowman was dropping to the back, creating some confusion before the race. NBC play-by-play man <strong>Leigh Diffey<\/strong> eventually made the correction, and things got started under the lights at Richmond. <\/p>\n<p>Alex Bowman and the playoffs<\/p>\n<p>Bowman had to be relieved to hear it was a joke. You know track position is going to be important over the course of 300 miles at Richmond, and Bowman is someone who needs to have a solid night. He entered Saturday 60 points clear of the playoff cutline, currently occupying the 15th playoff spot. Bowman is winless this season, meaning there\u2019s still work to do at Richmond and the following Saturday at Daytona.<\/p>\n<p>Bowman has done a good job of picking up points, keeping him relatively safe throughout the season. But prior to last Sunday\u2019s race at Watkins Glen, Bowman acknowledged that Richmond isn\u2019t a place where he\u2019s consistently had his best. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou have to expect [a new winner] in the situation that we\u2019re in,\u201d Bowman said. \u201cIt\u2019s three not-great racetracks for us. We\u2019ve won at Richmond before, but we\u2019ve been extremely hit-or-miss there over the years. We\u2019re either really good or really bad every time that we\u2019re there, so hopefully, we\u2019re on the really good side of that.
