A point of focus for Sweeney and the Bruins in the offseason seems to be bringing back defenseman Henri Jokiharju for another season.

Boston acquired Jokiharju in March in a trade that sent the team’s 2026 fourth-round draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres.

The Finland native had early success with the Bruins as a player on the blue line, something Boston was in need of. In 18 games, he added four assists to the stat sheet and went plus-7, averaging 21:22 minutes of ice time.

When July comes around, Jokiharju will be an unrestricted free agent, meaning he can talk to any team he wants about a contract.

Story continues below advertisement

“I’m currently in discussions with Henri, seeing if we can bring him back,” Sweeney said, according to WEEI’s Bridgette Proulx.”We have a need on the right side, there’s no question about that.”

Someone all Bruins fans would love to see back in the black and gold is Morgan Geekie. The forward is set to be a restricted free agent in July but has been open about wanting to stay in Boston.

“Any time you can stick around — like I said, I love it here. I’d love to be here as long as I can,” Geekie told reporters in April. “That’s definitely a goal, especially with a family now, being able to be in one spot would be awesome.”

Geekie is coming off his best NHL season, having a 57-point year during the 2024-25 season, 18 more than his previous season. He scored 33 goals, 26 of which were on the 5-on-5.

Story continues below advertisement

Sweeney told reporters that the Bruins have been in contact with the 26-year-old but haven’t agreed on an extension.

“There’s been constant communication,” Sweeney said. ” Are we on the doorstep? I don’t think so but that can change with one phone call… That doesn’t mean my attention isn’t on Morgan and being able to close out a deal. We have time with him in that regard so I’m not concerned.”

Story continues below advertisement

After the 2024-25 season, the Boston Bruins had a number of players going into free agency during the…

[42
15348,8206,293,62,67,132,68
0":"post-15196","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nhl","8":"tag-henri-jokiharju","9":"tag-morgan-geekie","10":"tag-nhl","11":"tag-sports","12":"tag-united-states","13":"tag-unitedstates","14":"tag-us
["GET
