SUNRISE, Fla. \u2013 Two years ago, Roger Daltrey<\/a> said he doubted The Who<\/a> would ever tour North America again.<\/p>\n

He was almost correct.<\/p>\n

Daltrey and fellow Who mastermind Pete Townshend<\/a> kicked off what will be the band\u2019s swan song \u2013 the aptly named The Song is Over North American Farewell Tour<\/a> \u2013 at Amerant Bank Arena in suburban Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Aug. 16.<\/p>\n

The classic rock fans who have followed the band for decades mingled with the younger generations bred on muscular rockers including \u201cPinball Wizard,\u201d \u201cI Can\u2019t Explain\u201d and durable anthem \u201cWon\u2019t Get Fooled Again<\/a>” as The Who rolled through a 23-song set scaling their legendary 60-year career.<\/p>\n

Joining Daltrey, 81, and Townshend, 80, onstage were longtime collaborators<\/a> Simon Townshend (guitar), Jon Button (bass), Loren Gold (keyboards), Jody Linscott (percussion), John Hogg (backing vocals) and Scott Devours, who took over drum duties earlier this year following the contentious dismissal of Zak Starkey<\/a>, who had played with The Who for nearly 30 years.<\/p>\n

The 17-date tour<\/a>, named for a song on The Who\u2019s classic 1971 album \u201cWho\u2019s Next,\u201d is playing arenas, amphitheaters and Fenway Park in Boston<\/a> (Aug. 26) and will take its final bow Sept. 28 in Las Vegas<\/a>. In July, the band played the first dates of its goodbye run with a couple of shows in Italy.<\/p>\n
