{"id":152881,"date":"2025-08-17T10:40:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-17T10:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/152881\/"},"modified":"2025-08-17T10:40:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-17T10:40:14","slug":"san-diego-waves-2-1-win-propels-club-to-2nd-place-in-nwsl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/152881\/","title":{"rendered":"San Diego Wave&#8217;s 2-1 win propels club to 2nd place in NWSL"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>San Diego Wave FC earned a 2-1 victory over Bay FC at PayPal Park Saturday, thanks to . second-half goals from Kimmi Ascanio and Kenza Dali.<\/p>\n<p>The win extended the Wave\u2019s (8-3-5, 29 points) <a href=\"https:\/\/timesofsandiego.com\/tag\/san-diego-wave-fc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unbeaten road streak<\/a> to six matches, setting a new <a href=\"https:\/\/sandiegowavefc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">club<\/a> record. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Diego now sits in second place in the NWSL standings, one point ahead of Orlando and Washington Spirit, whose matches ended in draws Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>After a scoreless first half, San Diego broke through in the 52nd minute, according to a Wave FC news release. The buildup started with Gia Corley, who combined with Delphine Cascarino before feeding Adriana Leon on the outside. <\/p>\n<p>Leon\u2019s far post cross found defender Perle Morroni in the box, but the ball dropped to Ascanio, who calmly slotted home her fourth goal of the season. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>San Diego doubled the lead in the 64th minute as Dali brought the ball up the field and played Leon inside the box. (Photo courtesy of San Diego Wave FC)<\/p>\n<p>Bay FC (4-7-5, 17 points) benefitted in the 75th minute when an handball in the box gave the hosts a penalty and Caroline Conti stepped up to convert from the spot. But the home club drew no closer. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Wave FC returns to San Diego to host Racing Louisville at 5 p.m. Aug. 24 in the club\u2019s annual Pride Night.
