It’s official: Prince William<\/a>, Kate Middleton<\/a> and their three children\u2014Prince George<\/a>,12, Princess Charlotte<\/a>, 10, and Prince Louis<\/a>, 7\u2014are embarking on a new chapter of their lives. Kensington Palace confirmed reports that the royal family “will move house later this year.”<\/p>\n

While the palace hasn’t revealed the exact location, multiple reports<\/a> say the family will be moving from their four-bedroom home, known as Adelaide Cottage, in Windsor, to an eight-bedroom estate nearby. Dubbed Forest Lodge, the 328-year-old home has been undergoing renovations, which the Prince and Princess of Wales are paying for themselves, according to People<\/a>. (Prince William earns about $30 million a year<\/a> from the Duchy of Cornwall estate.)<\/p>\n

The Georgian-style manor is part of England’s National Heritage List, featuring a vaulted, half-barrel ceiling, marble fireplaces and Venetian windows, and earlier this month, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead approved requests to replace doors and windows, strip out internal walls and upgrade the floors and ceilings, the Independent<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n

The last significant renovations to occur at Forest Lodge were in 2001, when photographers captured parts of the process, giving us a rare glimpse inside the property, which is reportedly valued at \u00a316 million (roughly $21.7 million).<\/p>\n

This move comes after a challenging few years for royal family. Shortly after Prince William and Princess Kate moved into Adelaide Cottage in 2022, they experienced the loss of Queen Elizabeth<\/a>, William’s grandmother, and in the years following, Princess Kate underwent chemotherapy (and thankfully announced she was cancer-free<\/a> in September 2024). During this time, King Charles has also been battling cancer, sharing in May<\/a> that he feels he’s “on the better side” of his health journey.<\/p>\n

As the family moves forward\u2014and looks ahead to Prince George’s move<\/a> to a new school in September 2026\u2014the transition to a new house seems all the more fitting. It’s a chance to turn the page and create new memories; a fresh start, so to speak.<\/p>\n
