It holds close to my heart,&#8221; Abby Garcia, a participant.Garcia emphasized the importance of organizations that provide help, noting, &#8220;A lot of people hide and don&#8217;t know what to do and don&#8217;t know that there are organizations out here to get help.&#8221;John Jeanetta, CEO of Heartland Family Service, highlighted the persistent issue of domestic violence in the community. &#8220;It&#8217;s a major problem in our community that needs to be addressed, and it&#8217;s not going anywhere,&#8221; he said. Jeanetta stressed the critical role of their services.&#8221;Without us, survivors have nowhere to go. And, and when they don&#8217;t have these access to these services, people die,&#8221; he said.Heartland&#8217;s 24\/7 helpline, safe housing, and therapy are vital resources. &#8220;Last year, we served 98 survivors in our shelter, and 80% were able to leave there and go into permanent safe housing,&#8221; Jeanetta said.In 2025, nearly 225 survivors sought legal services from Heartland, including protection orders and divorce processing. &#8220;Very essential pieces that helped lead somebody in this situation to a place of safety,&#8221; he said. &#8220;People believe in our mission and the work that we do.&#8221;Celebrating their 150th anniversary, Jeanetta acknowledged the community&#8217;s role in their success.&#8221;We exist today because of the community.
