{"id":155599,"date":"2025-08-18T11:33:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T11:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/155599\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T11:33:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T11:33:13","slug":"browns-reveal-timetable-for-decision-on-quarterback-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/155599\/","title":{"rendered":"Browns reveal timetable for decision on quarterback competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The quarterback battle in Cleveland will be coming to an end, with the Browns set to name a starting QB later this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters that the Week 1 starter will be announced, and that they intend to use the final preseason game of the year as a dress rehearsal of sorts before their opener against the Bengals on Sept. 7.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will name a starter,\u201d Stefanski said during a news conference. \u201cIt\u2019s going to come this week. We still anticipate all of our players, whether you\u2019re a starter or not, to prepare like you\u2019re the starter. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Browns have had four main quarterbacks in camp this summer, which have included Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Huntley <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/05\/sports\/browns-sign-tyler-huntley-to-add-fifth-arm-to-qb-battle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was also signed in August<\/a> as the Browns dealt with injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Plenty of attention has been on Sanders since the Browns selected him in the fifth round of the draft earlier this year and if he would manage to earn the starting or backup job in camp.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Quarterback Joe Flacco of the Cleveland Browns warms up during training camp. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Sanders started in the Browns\u2019 first preseason game and played well, but is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/13\/sports\/browns-give-shedeur-sanders-injury-update-after-rookie-exits-practice\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">day-to-day with an oblique strain.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pickett has been dealing with an injury issue as well and has been participating in 7-on-7 drills, but he hasn\u2019t been a part of 11-on-11 drills since it flared up in late July.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stefanski was asked on Sunday about the idea of carrying four quarterbacks into the start of the season \u2014 an uncommon practice \u2014 and didn\u2019t shoot down the idea outright.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cleveland Browns quarterback Dillon Gabriel warms up before action against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. Bill Streicher-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019ll let it play out as we get closer to the cut down,\u201d he said. \u201cThose are all conversations that we are always having, but those are tough decisions. You know, I\u2019d like to keep everybody, but not realistic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Browns will play the Rams in the preseason finale this weekend, which seems like it will be a look at what Cleveland plans to do with its roster for Week 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re working towards Week 1,\u201d Stefanski said. \u201cThat\u2019s part of what this week is about, getting our football team ready.
