JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. <\/strong> \u2013 The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners recently announced the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sjcfl.us\/sjc-proceeds-with-25-million-in-state-road-16-improvements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.sjcfl.us\/sjc-proceeds-with-25-million-in-state-road-16-improvements\/\"> approval of about $25 million in road upgrades<\/a> for State Road 16. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>RELATED: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/20\/st-johns-county-announces-single-lane-closure-on-county-road-208-for-45-days-beginning-june-30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/20\/st-johns-county-announces-single-lane-closure-on-county-road-208-for-45-days-beginning-june-30\/\">St. Johns County announces single-lane closure on County Road 208 for 45 days beginning June 30<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The two county-approved plans include widening the roadway from International Golf Parkway to County Road 2209 and adding more signals at the intersections of Stratton Boulevard and Industry Center Road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">C.W. Matthews Contracting and Besch and Smith Civil Group, Inc. were awarded the contracts for the work, with the former receiving about $21 million and the latter receiving slightly more than $4 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe are ecstatic about moving ahead on these two critical road improvement projects,\u201d said Greg Caldwell, Public Works Director. \u201cThese improvements will reduce traffic delays, increase roadway connectivity, and enhance the safety of drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians who use SR 16.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/sjcpwd.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/dashboards\/899b4250a51b481f99f01a5e32f52588\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/sjcpwd.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/dashboards\/899b4250a51b481f99f01a5e32f52588\">St. Johns County Capital Improvement Project<\/a> dashboard, the two projects take up $25 million from a $205 million budget for improving the county\u2019s transportation infrastructure. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">The Florida Department of Transportation also provided grants to partially fund both plans. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2025 by WJXT News4JAX &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
