{"id":155849,"date":"2025-08-18T13:55:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T13:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/155849\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T13:55:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T13:55:10","slug":"msnbc-will-change-its-name-after-comcast-split","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/155849\/","title":{"rendered":"MSNBC will change its name after Comcast split"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MSNBC is being renamed after parent company Comcast spins the cable news channel off into a separate corporate entity later this year.<\/p>\n<p>The left-leaning channel will be known as MS NOW once it becomes part of Versant, a new company, and is no longer associated with NBC News, staffers were told Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMorning Joe\u201d co-host Joe Scarborough informed viewers of the pending change on his program. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis shows we\u2019re independent,\u201d Scarborough said. \u201cI\u2019m excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a memo obtained by the Times, Versant Chief Executive Mark Lazarus indicated it was Comcast\u2019s decision to remove NBC and its famous peacock logo from the MSNBC name.<\/p>\n<p>The MS NOW acronym \u2014 standing for \u201cmy source, news, opinion and world\u201d \u2014 will convey that the channel has a point of view. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe peacock is synonymous with NBCUniversal, and it is a symbol they have decided to keep within the NBCU family,\u201d Lazarus wrote. \u201cThis gives us the opportunity to chart our own path forward, create distinct brand identities, and establish an independent news organization following the spin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The re-branding will be backed by a significant marketing campaign, said one person familiar with the name change discussions who was not authorized to comment.<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC will no longer share the resources of NBC News. The network is building its own news organization, with some NBC News journalists such as <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/business\/story\/2025-08-04\/jacob-soboroff-will-join-msnbc-after-network-splits-from-nbc-news\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacob Soboroff<\/a> choosing to join the cable operation.<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC will also be leaving NBC\u2019s Rockefeller Plaza headquarters for another Manhattan location.<\/p>\n<p>Key MSNBC personalities such as Scarborough, Rachel Maddow, Ari Melber and Lawrence O\u2019Donnell will remain a part of the channel after the spinoff. The network is will retain a politically progressive slant in its commentary.<\/p>\n<p>Versant is the new stand-alone home for most of Comcast\u2019s cable networks, including USA Network, the Golf Channel, CNBC and MSNBC. Comcast is spinning off the cable networks because it believes the mature outlets face a bleak future due to pay TV cord-cutting and are an albatross weighing down its stock price. <\/p>\n<p>MSNBC, the second most watched cable news channel behind leader Fox News,  has seen its reach into pay TV homes decline by 33% over the last 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC was founded in 1996 as a joint venture between NBC News and Microsoft.
