SAN ANTONIO \u2014 A San Antonio artist is remembering the “Queen of Tejano Music” with a new mural near the downtown area.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The mural depicts the legendary Selena Quintanilla-P\u00e9rez, whose life was tragically cut short when her fan club president Yolanda Sald\u00edvar shot her on March 31, 1995 in a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas. Sald\u00edvar was up for parole in the spring of 2025 but was denied by the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles – a decision that was gratefully accepted<\/a> by the late singers family. \u00a0<\/p>\n The new creation, painted by Roland Alvarez<\/a>, is located at the intersection of north Leona and west Houston Street near the Historic Market Square.\u00a0<\/p>\n Alvarez posted on Instagram about creating the mural to honor Selena’s memory.\u00a0<\/p>\n “I am honored to have had the opportunity to paint The Queen of Tejano, Selena Quintanilla. It has been 30 years since she passed, but the people of San Antonio will always love and remember her.
