{"id":156582,"date":"2025-08-18T20:18:15","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T20:18:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/156582\/"},"modified":"2025-08-18T20:18:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T20:18:15","slug":"nyc-breakfast-sandwich-restaurant-egg-shop-closes-in-nolita","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/156582\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Breakfast Sandwich Restaurant Egg Shop Closes in Nolita"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">An 11-year-old casual restaurant dedicated to all-things egg sandwiches <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DNLzpt_RFR-\/?igsh=eWxhcWUzMnliajN1]\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closed<\/a> its original location in New York this week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eggshopnyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Egg Shop<\/a> shuttered in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eggshopnyc.com\/location\/nolita\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nolita<\/a> at 151 Elizabeth Street, between Broome and Kenmare streets, on Sunday, August 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">Co-owners and married couple Sarah Schneider and Demetri Makoulis originally <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2014\/8\/28\/6164591\/breaking-a-few-rules-at-the-lower-east-sides-egg-shop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opened Egg Shop<\/a> in 2014 with chef Nick Korbee (who now runs a restaurant out in Wichita, Kansas). The menu focused on the name ingredient in breakfast sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and plates like chilaquiles and Turkish eggs. They expanded with <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2017\/5\/25\/15691056\/egg-shop-expanding-williamsburg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a second location<\/a> in Williamsburg in 2017 (which remains open), and a <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2024\/10\/3\/24253052\/new-restaurant-openings-october-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greek American homestyle restaurant<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gusandmartys.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gus and Marty\u2019s<\/a>, in 2024 (both of which remain open), plus a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/0062476610\/ref=cm_sw_su_dp?tag=authorweb-20&amp;tag=eater0c-20\" rel=\"sponsored noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cookbook<\/a>. Wells\u2019 pop-up residency brings it back to Long Island City<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.magasinwells.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M. Wells<\/a>, the lauded Queens restaurant-turned-<a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2025\/3\/20\/24385868\/m-wells-pop-up-reopening-bushwick-new-york-distillery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pop-up<\/a>, has returned home to its original Long Island City stomping grounds for a summer residency. It\u2019s been happening at wine bar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onthe7lic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On the 7<\/a> at 50-04 Vernon Boulevard, near 50th Avenue, since June, and will continue into mid-September. The <a href=\"https:\/\/magasinwells.getbento.com\/menus\/diningroom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bistro-ish menu<\/a> includes lots of seafood, such as monkfish cordon bleu and cod cacciatore. It takes place on Sundays and Mondays starting at 5 p.m., with the final seatings at 10 p.m.; <a href=\"https:\/\/resy.com\/cities\/new-york-ny\/venues\/m-wells-steakhouse?date=2025-09-15&amp;seats=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reservations can be booked online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">Sarah Obraitis and Hugue Dufour <a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2024\/7\/10\/24194196\/queens-steakhouse-m-wells-closing-soon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closed<\/a> M. Wells Steakhouse in January after a decade because they decided against renewing their lease. Instead, they launched a pop-up series starting at Buschwick\u2019s New York Distilling Company in the spring. This is their second pop-up residency location, amongst one-off collaborations and events.<\/p>\n<p>NYC bakery chain seems to be shuttered<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph n2hx75i _1knl15h1 _1knl15h0 cej01i1\">It seems like bakery <a href=\"https:\/\/oven.ly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ovenly<\/a> closed its remaining location in Brooklyn last month. The 31 Greenpoint Avenue bakery is currently \u201ctaking a pause,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/oven.ly\/pages\/locations-hours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per its website<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/greenpointers.com\/2025\/08\/12\/ovenly-puts-the-pause-on-its-greenpoint-location\/?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">as reported by Greenpointers<\/a>, since Tuesday, August 12. However, Ovenly appears to still be selling its baked goods, like cakes and cookies, for national shipping through <a href=\"https:\/\/goldbelly.pxf.io\/c\/482924\/1129939\/13451?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.goldbelly.com%2Frestaurants%2Fovenly\" rel=\"sponsored noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Goldbelly<\/a>.
