\n\tLegendary Entertainment<\/a> is in early talks to partner with Paramount<\/a> on the theatrical distribution of its film slate. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe production company behind \u201cA Minecraft Movie\u201d and \u201cDune\u201d had been under contract at Sony Pictures after cutting ties with Warner Bros. in 2022. However, the multi-year deal at Sony expired at the end of 2024 and wasn\u2019t renewed. Legendary has also worked with Netflix and Universal on various projects.\u00a0Although the new agreement with Paramount hasn\u2019t been signed and negotiations are ongoing, certain projects like upcoming \u201cDune\u201d sequels and \u201cGodzilla\u201d or \u201cKong\u201d entries in the \u201cMonsterVerse\u201d franchise would be exempt, staying at Warner Bros. due to a prior pact.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe talks come after Legendary\u2019s recent box office hot streak with last year\u2019s \u201cDune: Part Two\u201d and this year\u2019s mega-hit \u201cA Minecraft Movie,\u201d which earned $714 million and $955 million respectively at the global box office. Meanwhile, Paramount has been on a dealmaking spree after closing its $8 billion merger with Skydance. David Ellison, the company\u2019s chairman and CEO, and his newly assembled team have recently lured the Duffer brothers, best known for creating \u201cStranger Things,\u201d from Netflix and won a bidding war for \u201cHigh Side,\u201d a buzzed-about feature package that will reunite \u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d filmmaker James Mangold with Timothee Chalamet. Ellison brought in Josh Greenstein, the president of Sony Pictures, and Dana Goldberg, chief creative officer at Skydance, to help revitalize the studio.<\/p>\n

\n\tLooking ahead, Legendary will release an untitled film from director Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu and star Tom Cruise, as well as \u201cDune: Part Three,\u201d which began production last month. It\u2019s unclear which projects Legendary will partner with Paramount on, since Warner Bros. is distributor on those aforementioned movies.
