(File image taken from Zoom event)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcda.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Diego County District Attorney\u2019s Office<\/a> announced Monday that it is bolstering methods for members of the public to file consumer protection complaints.<\/p>\n<p>The DA\u2019s office says it has updated a website that allows members of the public to report complaints regarding fraudulent or unlawful business practices taking place within San Diego County. <\/p>\n<p>That online reporting tool can be accessed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcda.org\/preventing\/consumer-protection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Consumer protection experts will also be available to handle in-person complaints and provide advice at two locations: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sdcda.org\/office\/care\/index.html#gsc.tab=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DA\u2019s CARE Center<\/a> in National City and <a href=\"https:\/\/onesafeplacenorth.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One Safe Place: the North County Family Justice Center<\/a> in San Marcos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy office is committed to supporting the San Diego community and providing a means of reporting individuals and businesses engaged in unlawful business practices,\u201d San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to streamline the reporting process as much as possible and want consumers to know where they can go to more easily report suspected fraud or unlawful business practices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The DA\u2019s office said that more than $134 million in penalties have been ordered over the past decade in connection with consumer protection filings from its office, including more than $14 million in civil judgments last year.<\/p>\n<p>The San Diego County DA\u2019s office is also part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/da.lacounty.gov\/media\/news\/hellofresh-pay-75-million-deceptive-subscription-practices-consumer-protection-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California Automatic Renewal Task Force<\/a>, a coalition of district attorney\u2019s offices statewide that recently secured a $7.5 million settlement with meal kit delivery company HelloFresh for alleged violations of California\u2019s law governing automatic subscription renewals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"District Attorney Summer Stephan during Zoom session at bench-bar-media event.
