href=\"https:\/\/www.ubs.com\/global\/en\/investment-bank\/insights-and-data\/global-research.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">UBS Global Research<\/a> reportedly advised investors looking at the artificial intelligence industry to keep an eye on overheating risk and the health of the asset class.<\/p>\n<p>UBS strategists wrote this in a Monday (Aug. 18) note in which they said private credit lenders are becoming an important source of capital for the industry, Bloomberg <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-08-18\/private-credit-powered-ai-boom-at-risk-of-overheating-ubs-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">reported<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Private debt loaned to the technology sector increased by $100 billion over the past 12 months, reaching a total of $450 billion, while business development companies\u2019 tech lending leapt from $80 billion to $150 billion, the UBS note said, per the report.<\/p>\n<p>The demand for this capital is driven by tech companies\u2019 spending on AI data center construction and other AI development costs, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis phenomenon could sustain significant growth plans for AI and other hyperscaler companies, sowing the seeds of an upside scenario and increasing overheating risk,\u201d the UBS strategists led by <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/matthew-mish-54948210\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Matthew Mish<\/a> wrote in the note, per the report.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Microsoft<\/a> said in a July 30 earnings report that its capital expenditures are projected to exceed $30 billion in the first quarter to meet the rising <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/earnings\/2025\/microsoft-rides-ai-infrastructure-wave-as-cloud-services-demand-jumps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">infrastructure<\/a> needs driven by strong demand for cloud and AI.<\/p>\n<p>During the fiscal year ended June 30, Microsoft opened new data centers across six continents and now has more than 400 facilities in 70 regions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe continue to scale our own data center capacity faster than any other competitor,\u201d Microsoft CEO <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/satyanadella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Satya Nadella<\/a> said during a July 30 earnings call.<\/p>\n<p>PYMNTS reported July 15 that <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Google<\/a>, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meta.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Meta<\/a>, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackstone.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Blackstone<\/a> and <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coreweave.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Coreweave<\/a> are planning to collectively spend hundreds of billions of dollars to build AI <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/news\/artificial-intelligence\/2025\/google-meta-others-pledge-billions-dollars-build-ai-data-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">data centers<\/a>, as the arms race heats up to build the computing power needed by this advanced technology.<\/p>\n<p>A month earlier, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AWS<\/a> said it would spend at least $20 billion to expand its cloud computing and AI infrastructure in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>In March, <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/x.ai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">xAI<\/a> and <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nvidia<\/a> joined a $30 billion <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pymnts.com\/artificial-intelligence-2\/2025\/nvidia-and-xai-sign-on-to-30-billion-ai-infrastructure-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AI infrastructure<\/a> project called the AI Infrastructure Fund, which is backed by <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.blackrock.com\/us\/individual\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">BlackRock<\/a>, Microsoft and Abu Dhabi AI investment group <a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mgx.ae\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MGX<\/a>.
