Asia-Pacific markets mostly fell Tuesday\u00a0as investors await the outcome of the talks between U.S. President\u00a0Donald Trump<\/a>, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/a> and European leaders at the White House.<\/p>\n Japan’s Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0benchmark ticked up 0.1%, after closing at a record high in its previous session, while the broader Topix index was flat.<\/p>\n In South Korea, the\u00a0Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index fell 0.2% in early trade, while the small-cap Kosdaq declined by 0.33%.<\/p>\n Australia’s\u00a0S&P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0dropped 0.61% at the open.<\/p>\n Futures for Hong Kong’s\u00a0Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0stood at 25,230, pointing to a stronger open compared with the HSI’s last close of 25,176.85.<\/p>\n Investors are also looking ahead to the U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s annual speech at the central bank’s summit in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that’s scheduled Friday.<\/p>\n U.S. equity futures<\/a> were little changed in early Asia hours, at the start of a week filled with retail earnings and speeches from Fed officials.<\/p>\n Overnight stateside, all three key benchmarks ended the day near the flatline.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Dow Jones Industrial Average<\/a>\u00a0dropped 34.30 points, or 0.08%, to close at 44,911.82. The\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0closed down 0.01% and ended at 6,449.15, while the\u00a0Nasdaq Composite<\/a>\u00a0inched up 0.03% to settle at 21,629.77.<\/p>\n Shares of two of the so-called magnificent seven stocks\u00a0Meta Platforms<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Microsoft<\/a>\u00a0dropped about 2.3% and 0.6%, weighing on the broader market.<\/p>\n \u2014 CNBC’s Yun Li, Pia Singh and Alex Harring contributed to this report.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ulsan city skyline from the Hamwolru Pavilion.
