If Texas Republicans approve President Donald Trump\u2019s proposed congressional maps, Bexar County Commissioner Grant Moody (Pct. 3) says he\u2019s interested in helping his party pick up a seat.<\/p>\n
Moody represents the North Side and his county commissioner precinct overlaps with the reshaped 35th Congressional District<\/a> the GOP hopes to create.<\/p>\n He does not live within the new district\u2019s boundaries, he told the San Antonio Report. But members of Congress aren\u2019t required to live in the district they represent.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve always felt called to serve my community and country, and these new maps present a unique opportunity to continue serving,\u201d Moody said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cMy wife and I are grateful for the outpouring of support we have received and are prayerfully considering whether this is the right race and the right time for our family.\u201d<\/p>\n Texas\u2019 35th Congressional District<\/a> currently stretches from Austin to San Antonio \u2014 some of the region\u2019s bluest urban territory.<\/p>\n But Trump requested the unusual mid-cycle redistricting process to create five new GOP pickup opportunities in Texas<\/a> to help offset potential losses elsewhere in the country in the 2026 midterm election.<\/p>\n The result could mean blue San Antonio goes from<\/a> majority Democratic representation in Congress to a Republican majority.<\/p>\n The proposed maps leave TX35\u2019s current congressman, progressive U.S. Rep. Greg Casar (D-Austin), to compete with<\/a> fellow Democratic U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Austin) over a single Austin-centric district, or else try again in the new district, which is far from home and much less blue than his current seat.<\/p>\n
