Federal Forest Service Firefighters are currently battling a fire that ignited near the La Plata Trail. The fire has reportedly expanded from Northern Chaffee County into Southern Lake County.<\/p>\n

The Chaffee County Sheriff\u2019s Office posted an alert on its Facebook page<\/a> at 5:57 p.m. on Monday, August 18. The fire is estimated to be 15 to 20 acres. It is located at a high elevation and is growing in size.<\/p>\n

The La Plata Fire is located entirely on National Forest U.S. Forest Service \u2013 PSICC National Forest land. No pre-evacuations or evacuations have been called at this time.<\/p>\n

Chaffee County Government<\/a> shared that they and the Chaffee County Sheriff\u2019s Office were monitoring the fire, which was first reported in the evening on Sunday, August 17.<\/p>\n

The fire start is approximately 2 miles north of La Plata Peak. Chaffee County stated it is \u201cis believed to have been human caused.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is currently at 0 percent containment.<\/p>\n

People should remain clear of the area to allow responders to focus and do their jobs.<\/p>\n
