Managing Director Mel Zarb-Cousin said ongoing construction along South Alamo Street is largely to blame.

“We are asking for the community’s help right now, to help us weather the storm,” she said.

The theatre, which has performances for children and families, is in need of major help. Zarb-Cousin said they have surveyed people asking about their reasoning they’re not showing up to the venue.

“More often than not, it is construction, or difficulty parking, things like that,” she said.

Zarb-Cousin said ticket sales make up 50 percent of Magik’s budget. She said the other half comes from donors, grants and other contributions.

“If one is suffering a lot, the other would have to pick up more,” Zarb-Cousin said. “And with this uncertain economy and climate right now, it is just not a sure bet.”

Right now, the Magik Theatre has launched a new fundraising campaign called “Believe in Magik” and is asking for community support.

“We believe that people believe in us. And believe in Magik, so that is what we are putting out there,” Zarb-Cousin said.

Despite the challenges, she emphasized that the theatre remains committed to its mission of providing access to quality performing arts for young people.

“There is nothing that is keeping us from doing our mission,” she said. “This is just a moment in time.”

Construction on South Alamo Street is expected to wrap up by next spring. The Magik Theatre will continue with its fall season, before closing temporarily for renovations in early 2026.

If you would like to help, click here.

“We are asking for the community’s help right now, to help us weather the storm,” Magik Theatre Managing…

[5133
5229,7202,7203,358,3187,67,586,132,5230,68,2969
0":"post-157417","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-antonio","8":"tag-america","9":"tag-san-antonio","10":"tag-sanantonio","11":"tag-texas","12":"tag-tx","13":"tag-united-states","14":"tag-united-states-of-america","15":"tag-unitedstates","16":"tag-unitedstatesofamerica","17":"tag-us","18":"tag-usa
["GET
