From free subscriptions to discounted experiences around Philadelphia, here\u2019s a list of free perks that come with being a Penn student.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Subscriptions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By logging in with Penn credentials, students receive access to a range of media, academic, and entertainment subscriptions.\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>For your daily news, look no further than Penn Libraries, which provides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.upenn.edu\/services\/news-subscriptions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">free subscriptions<\/a> to The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Le Monde, Bloomberg, and The Financial Times. To use these subscriptions, students simply need to register for an account on each website using their PennKey. Students can access The Philadelphia Inquirer for free when connected to AirPennNet Wi-Fi.\n<\/p>\n<p>As a major research institution, Penn also maintains a variety of open-access agreements with academic publishers such as Springer, Elsevier, and Cambridge University Press. Students can access a variety of the publications\u2019 academic journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell Press by logging in with their Penn credentials.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Finally, students living in on-campus housing can access Xfinity digital streaming by logging into <a href=\"https:\/\/pennvideo.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Xfinity on Campus<\/a> with a PennKey. With this subscription, students get full access to 291 channels including ESPN, TNT, and CNN, which they can access on their mobile devices by downloading the <a href=\"https:\/\/pennvideo.upenn.edu\/archive\/xfinity-stream-app.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Xfinity Stream app<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Getting around Philadelphia can be hectic, but a PennCard makes it easier.\n\t<\/p>\n<p>Penn Buses operate on three fixed <a href=\"https:\/\/penntransit.tripshot.com\/g\/tms\/Public.html#RoutesPlace:%7B%22regionId%22:%22CA558DDC-D7F2-4B48-9CAC-DEEA1134F820%22,%20%22date%22:%7B%22year%22:2024,%20%22month%22:5,%20%22day%22:23%7D,%20%22noNav%22:false%7D\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bus routes<\/a> Mondays through Fridays from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Students can ride these \u2014 as well as all Drexel University bus services \u2014 for free by showing their PennCards.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>LUCY \u2014 or Loop through University City \u2014 also offers a free SEPTA shuttle for Penn students from campus to William H. Gray III 30th Street Station from 6:10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking to get out of Philadelphia, Amtrak offers a 15% national student discount, and Penn students are also eligible for a 25% New Jersey Transit discount.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Finally, before and after major school breaks, Penn\u2019s Undergraduate Assembly offers free shuttle service to the Philadelphia International Airport for undergraduate students.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Penn Libraries offers a wide range of technologies that students can check out and use with a valid PennKey, including phone and laptop chargers, gaming consoles, and 3D printers. Students can browse Penn\u2019s technology offerings and where to access them on Penn Libraries\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.upenn.edu\/equipment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">equipment directory<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>Penn students can also receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.business-services.upenn.edu\/access-savings-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">discounts<\/a> on certain Apple, Dell, and Lenovo purchases, and some students may qualify for discounted<a href=\"\" target=\"_self\"> AT&amp;T Wireless or Verizon <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/isc.upenn.edu\/resources\/cellular-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cellular service<\/a><a href=\"\" target=\"_self\">.<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re struggling in a class, you\u2019re not alone \u2014 Penn students also receive free access to a variety of educational software, including <a href=\"https:\/\/osl.isc.upenn.edu\/available-software\/mathematica\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mathematica<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/osl.isc.upenn.edu\/available-software\/matlab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">MATLAB<\/a>.\u00a0\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\tSign up for our newsletter<\/p>\n<p>Get our newsletter, DP Daybreak, delivered to your inbox every weekday morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Experiences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, a PennCard can be a magic ticket to a variety of activities on and around campus.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>All Penn students receive free admission to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morrisarboretum.org\/learn-discover\/penn-students-staff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Morris Arboretum<\/a>, a 92-acre, Victorian public garden operated and maintained by Penn, as well as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penn.museum\/learn\/penn-students\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penn Museum<\/a>, an archaeology and anthropology museum that houses over 1 million objects excavated from around the world.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a new way to stay active or to support a friend, have no fear: Penn students receive discounted tickets to the <a href=\"https:\/\/icerink.business-services.upenn.edu\/public-sessions\/our-schedule\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Class of 1923 Ice Skating Rink<\/a>, as well as $10 tickets to any <a href=\"https:\/\/pennlivearts.org\/events\/college-students.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penn Live Arts performances<\/a> by using the promo code PENNSTUDENT and showing a valid PennCard and email. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Pennsylvanian is an independent, student-run newspaper.
