Here are some groups to know:\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/49576646-e755-4a55-a146-18ce271b3b9c.sized-1000x1000.jpg\" class=\"img img-responsive embedded-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                            Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/staff\/anna-vazhaeparambil\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anna Vazhaeparambil<\/a><br \/>\n                          Pan-Asian American Community House, Makuu: The Black Cultural Center, and La Casa Latina are located in the basement of ARCH. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Affinity and cultural groups<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of Penn\u2019s cultural advocacy landscape is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2022\/09\/penn-7b-upcoming-semester-all-coalitions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the 7B<\/a> \u2014 a coalition of student organizations that represent minority groups on campus. The 7B includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/pennclubs.com\/club\/apsc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Asian Pacific Student Coalition<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/pennclubs.com\/club\/lambda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Lambda Alliance<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upennlc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Latinx Coalition<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/pennclubs.com\/club\/natives-at-penn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Natives at Penn<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/penngenderequity.my.canva.site\/page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penn Association for Gender Equity<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.umojaupenn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">UMOJA<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/upennumc.squarespace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">United Minorities Council<\/a>.\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>In May 2022, the 7B <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2022\/09\/penn-arch-renovations-cultural-resource-centers-7b-advocacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">came to an agreement<\/a> with the University to expand the cultural resource centers housed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/spaceandevents.universitylife.upenn.edu\/the-arch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ARCH building\u2019s<\/a> basement at 3601 Locust Walk. The expanded space now spans<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/article\/2024\/08\/penn-cultural-centers-community-resources\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> all four floors<\/a> of the ARCH building and offers student organizations access to study rooms, social areas, and office spaces.\n<\/p>\n<p>The ARCH is home to three of Penn\u2019s cultural resource centers: the <a href=\"https:\/\/paach.universitylife.upenn.edu\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pan-Asian American Community House<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/makuu.universitylife.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Makuu: The Black Cultural Center<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lacasa.universitylife.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">La Casa Latina<\/a>.\u00a0\n\t<\/p>\n<p>Other cultural resource centers across Penn\u2019s campus include the <a href=\"https:\/\/lgbtcenter.universitylife.upenn.edu\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">LGBT Center<\/a> located at 3907 Spruce St., the <a href=\"https:\/\/pwc.universitylife.upenn.edu\/aboutus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penn Women\u2019s Center<\/a> at 3643 Locust Walk, the <a href=\"https:\/\/gic.universitylife.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Greenfield Intercultural Center<\/a> at 3708 Chestnut St., and the <a href=\"https:\/\/chaplain.upenn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Spiritual and Religious Life Center<\/a> at 240 Houston Hall.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The various centers will host open houses, welcome dinners, and receptions throughout the end of August and September \u2014 all of which are available for new students.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/d2ee8a4d-a8bc-4a07-97f9-8bc98afcdd17.sized-1000x1000.jpg\" class=\"img img-responsive embedded-img\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                            Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedp.com\/staff\/alekha-choksey\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alekha Choksey<\/a><br \/>\n                          The Shleifer Family Penn First Plus Center is located in College Hall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support for <\/strong><strong>first-generation, low-income<\/strong><strong> students<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n<p>Beyond cultural groups, Penn also offers specialized support for FGLI students.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/pennfirstplus.upenn.edu\/about-penn-first-plus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Penn First Plus<\/a> office supports students who are the first in their families to pursue a four-year baccalaureate degree or come from modest financial circumstances. This center reports to the deputy provost and collaborates with the University Life, Student Engagement, and Financial Aid departments.\n<\/p>\n<p>P1P oversees programs such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/pennfirstplus.upenn.edu\/college-achievement-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">College Achievement Program<\/a>, which provides personalized support, academic guidance, educational workshops, and cultural enrichment opportunities for students from their first year through graduation.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>Participants are assigned a professional academic counselor and a peer mentor to assist in the college transition process. They are also invited to attend a variety of events \u2014 including museum visits, theater performances, musical events, and cultural dinners \u2014\u00a0at no cost.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Shleifer Family Penn First Plus Center \u2014 one of P1P\u2019s offices \u2014 is located on the garden level of College Hall, offering lounge space, study rooms, meeting areas, and free printing. The office provides guidance on immigration, employment authorization, United States border entry, and integration into the Penn community.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>ISSS also oversees initiatives such as the\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/global.upenn.edu\/isss\/international-student-advisory-board-isab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Student Advisory Board<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/global.upenn.edu\/isss\/istar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Student Table for Advocacy &amp; Relations<\/a>,\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/global.upenn.edu\/isss\/ipog-international-partners-outreach-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Partners Outreach Group<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/global.upenn.edu\/isss\/bisig\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Building International Student Integration Group<\/a> \u2014 all of which aim to gather feedback, advocate for policy improvements, and design new initiatives to further support the needs of international students on campus.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>ISSS will host several events during <a href=\"https:\/\/global.upenn.edu\/isss\/orientation-events\/#calendar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">International Student Orientation<\/a>, which began on Aug. 18 and will continue through Aug. 22.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Pennsylvanian is an independent, student-run newspaper.
