Arsenal<\/strong><\/a> have reportedly received and rejected Real Madrid<\/strong><\/a>‘s offer to take William Saliba<\/strong><\/a> in exchange for Rodrygo<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Gunners may have started their Premier League<\/a><\/strong> season with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United on Sunday<\/a>,<\/strong> but the club’s performance against the Red Devils was concerning.<\/p>\n

Striker Viktor Gyokeres<\/strong><\/a> failed to produce a single shot in the game, while United totalled 61% possession and generated 22 shots against the Londoners.<\/p>\n

Were it not for the team’s resilient defence, marshalled by centre-back Saliba, boss Mikel Arteta<\/strong><\/a> may have experienced defeat in matchweek one.<\/p>\n

The defender has been linked to Real Madrid, and Marca<\/a> claim that Arsenal immediately rejected a proposed swap deal involving winger Rodrygo heading to the Emirates in exchange for the Frenchman.<\/p>\n

Mikel Arteta’s William Saliba and Bukayo Saka<\/strong><\/a> transfer risk<\/p>\n

William Saliba has arguably been one of the Premier League’s finest defenders over the last few seasons, with his defensive nous and ability in possession making him an asset to Arteta.<\/p>\n

The Frenchman only has two years left on his contract, and while there is no need to panic, Real have shown with Trent Alexander-Arnold<\/strong><\/a> that they are able to convince star players to run down their deals.<\/p>\n

Arsenal talisman Bukayo Saka also has two years remaining on his contract, and while the duo appear settled at the Emirates, they do not have the silverware that their talent deserves.<\/p>\n

The Gunners finished second in each of the prior three Premier League seasons, and failure to claim top spot once again could leave the two players questioning their futures when they would have just a year left on their deals.<\/p>\n

Why Arsenal may still need Real Madrid’s Rodrygo<\/p>\n

If Arsenal are to finish first in 2025-26, they will need striker Gyokeres to perform consistently in the final third, but the Swede failed to impress at Old Trafford on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Gunners as a team experienced difficulties against United, producing just 0.28 xG from open play, and it looks as if the club are yet to address their creative struggles from last term.<\/p>\n

Rodrygo is far more comfortable between opposition lines than Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli<\/strong><\/a>, and his ability to impact play against deep blocks could help the Londoners produce more chances for Gyokeres.<\/p>\n

Provided that funds are available for his purchase, Arteta’s squad could benefit significantly from the addition of the Los Blancos forward.<\/p>\n
