Police have shared new details about the death of Dominican influencer Ariela \u201cLa Langosta.\u201d<\/a>\n<\/p>\n The content creator \u2014 whose real name was Ariela Mejia-Polanco \u2014 died as a result of gunshot wounds on Sunday, Aug. 17, the Westchester County Police Department announced in a statement<\/a> shared on Facebook. She was 33.\n<\/p>\n According to police, Mejia-Polanco was found dead behind the wheel of her vehicle at about 8 a.m. on Sunday morning on the eastbound Cross County Parkway near the Broad Street exit in Mount Vernon in what appeared to be a “targeted” attack.\n<\/p>\n “Her death was not a random act,” the statement continued.\n<\/p>\n Mejia-Polanco’s death is currently under investigation by detectives from the General Investigations Unit, per police.\n<\/p>\n In a previous statement to PEOPLE, Ikon New York, a Manhattan restaurant and lounge, confirmed that Mejia-Polanco was an employee at the establishment and had been \u201cat work\u201d the night before her death.\n<\/p>\n Following the news of Mejia-Polanco’s death, rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine<\/a> \u2014\u00a0with whom she maintained a public friendship \u2014\u00a0posted a tribute to the late influencer, writing in Spanish that she would be remembered as the \u201cqueen of New York.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \u201cNY won\u2019t ever be the same,\u201d the rapper added. \u201cI loved you.\u201d\n<\/p>\n Several nightclubs also shared tributes to Mejia-Polanco in the days after her death was made public.\n<\/p>\n Ariela ‘La Langosta’.<\/p>\n Ariiela Lalangosta\/Instagram<\/p>\n \u201cYour joy, your humility, and the way you treated everyone with so much care always made you stand out,\u201d wrote Ikon New York in a post on Instagram on Aug. 17. \u201cThank you for giving so much love and support to our home, which also became yours.
