{"id":158769,"date":"2025-08-19T16:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T16:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/158769\/"},"modified":"2025-08-19T16:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T16:02:11","slug":"pete-townshend-says-he-has-5-years-left-in-show-business-at-age-80","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/158769\/","title":{"rendered":"Pete Townshend says he has 5 years left in show business at age 80"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!\n  <\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">At 80 years old, The Who&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/pete-townshend-opens-up-about-past-alcohol-abuse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Pete Townshend<\/a> still has a lot to give.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"speakable\">In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aarp.org\/entertainment\/music\/the-who-pete-townshend-tells-all.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">AARP<\/a>, the rock band&#8217;s guitarist and lead songwriter opened up about his career over the past 60 years and explained why he only has about five years left in show business.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think I\u2019m on the f&#8212;ing mountain top! You know, I just feel supreme,&#8221; Townshend, who has battled many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/entertainment\/events\/illness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">health issues<\/a> over the years, said. &#8220;My brain is as sharp as a razor. I\u2019m very, very creative. I\u2019m not good with money, but I\u2019m good at doing business deals. I am healthy, and I think I probably have another five years in show business. I\u2019m not quite sure doing what. (Sergione Infuso\/Corbis via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Townshend, who is currently on a 17-date trek tour across North America with bandmate Roger Daltrey, said that while being on the road at this age can be &#8220;lonely,&#8221; he&#8217;s grateful for the work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It can be lonely. I\u2019ve thought, \u2018Well, this is my job, I\u2019m happy to have the work, but I prefer to be doing something else,\u2019&#8221; he said. &#8220;Then, I think, &#8216;Well, I\u2019m 80 years old. Why shouldn\u2019t I revel in it? Why shouldn\u2019t I celebrate?\u2019&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s a brand rather than a band,&#8221; he added of the band&#8217;s longevity. &#8220;Roger and I have a duty to the music and the history. The Who [still] sells records \u2014 the Moon and Entwistle families have become millionaires. There\u2019s also something more, really: the art, the creative work is when we perform it. We\u2019re celebrating. (Graham Wiltshire\/Redferns)<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Daltrey gave the crowd an unexpected health update while performing alongside Townshend for the Teenage Cancer Trust <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\/the-who-roger-daltrey-called-elton-john-allegedly-not-responding-charity-events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">charity event<\/a> in London.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The joys of getting old mean you go deaf. I also now have got the joy of going blind,&#8221; he revealed mid-set, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.sky.com\/story\/the-whos-lead-singer-roger-daltrey-tells-fans-hes-going-blind-during-live-show-13338583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">per\u00a0Sky News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fortunately, I still have my voice, because then I\u2019ll have a full Tommy,&#8221; he said, referencing the title character of The Who&#8217;s 1969 album. &#8220;Deaf, dumb and blind kid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><strong>LIKE WHAT YOU\u2019RE READING? (Robb Cohen\/Invision\/AP, File)<\/p>\n<p>While speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/culture\/music\/article\/roger-daltrey-interview-who-tour-dreamland-margate-amerant-bank-arena-florida-kzrv3pgzm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">The Times<\/a> earlier this month, Daltrey opened up about his health concerns and gave insight as to what&#8217;s next for him after The Who&#8217;s tour wraps.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is certainly the last time you will see us on tour,&#8221; Daltrey said. &#8220;It\u2019s grueling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In the days when I was singing Who songs for three hours a night, six nights a week, I was working harder than most footballers. As to whether we\u2019ll play [one-off] concerts again, I don\u2019t know.
