City leaders recently released the <a href=\"https:\/\/webdocs.sandiego.gov\/public\/2nd-draft-college-area-cpu.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">second draft of the College Area Community Plan<\/a>, which includes a plan for more housing, greenspace and safety improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The second draft incorporates feedback received from the first draft and citywide goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe College Area Community Plan Update is critical to ensuring this community grows sustainably over the next 30 years and in a way that best serves its residents,\u201d\u00a0San Diego Planning Director Heidi Vonblum said in a statement posted on the city\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>The city highlighted the points below on their website:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increased opportunities for new homes, businesses and community amenities in focused, mixed-use and transit-oriented village areas<\/li>\n<li>A mobility framework that prioritizes the comfort and safety of all road users, including bicyclists, pedestrians and transit riders<\/li>\n<li>Streets designed with wide sidewalks, shade trees and landscaping that promote pedestrian activity and support local businesses<\/li>\n<li>New public spaces planned for the community, including a linear park along Montezuma Road<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some people NBC 7 spoke with agree with the plan\u2019s objectives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it&#8217;s important,\u201d said Kaylee Jimenez, who lives in College Area. \u201cIt&#8217;s definitely needed, like more housing, more parking, more crosswalks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some people object to the plan\u2019s goal of increasing housing density.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m frustrated, and I&#8217;m angry,\u201d said Jim Jennings, who lives in the area. \u201cIt ruins the character. There is going to be no character.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jennings said he is voicing his opinion with the city through its online comment section.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been doing that, and I don&#8217;t know how far it will go because I don&#8217;t think the city is listening to us,\u201d Jennings said.<\/p>\n<p>The public has until Sept. 7 to comment on the plan via the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSfznaz2T_xtDZ7Ke7wYkYFHZhsdRxVt4MyTBYwhK9UKeIspOg\/viewform\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">city\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The city of San Diego is planning the future of the College Area.
