Image via: Kiyoshi Mio-Imagn Images The Dallas Mavericks are set to enter the 2025-26 NBA season as one of the league’s most fascinating teams with a healthy Anthony Davis on the roster. While much of the spotlight has shifted toward Luka Doncic’s move to Los Angeles and rookie Cooper Flagg’s arrival in Dallas, ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins believes opponents are overlooking the Mavericks’ most dangerous weapon. “People are sleeping on Anthony Marshon Davis Jr. He’s going to be on a mission. Folks better watch the f*ck out for AD,” Perkins warned on the Road Trippin’ Pod.

The Dallas Mavericks have Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg as lethal weapons

The shockwave of Luka Doncic’s trade to the Los Angeles Lakers still lingers, with critics labeling it one of the riskiest moves in modern sports. Dallas Mavericks, however, didn’t just ship out their superstar; they landed a top-10 player in Anthony Davis, along with draft capital that eventually brought them Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall pick. That combination gives the Mavericks a rare mix of star power and young potential.Flagg’s arrival has electrified the fan base, but it has also overshadowed Davis, whose importance cannot be overstated. The 10-time All-Star is entering his first full season in Dallas after a frustrating debut marred by a foot injury. Perkins sees that as fuel, predicting that Davis will use the skepticism to power a “revenge tour” that could redefine his career.Head coach Jason Kidd will need Davis at his best, especially with Kyrie Irving sidelined for the early part of the season. Without Irving, Dallas will lean on Davis’s scoring, defense, and leadership to stay competitive in a loaded Western Conference. The league clearly expects Dallas to remain relevant, as the Mavericks will tip off the season on October 22 against Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs and feature in marquee games like Christmas Day.

The 2025-26 season could be a redemption arc for Anthony Davis

Perkins’s message was blunt: the NBA has forgotten how dominant Davis can be. “Anthony Davis and Karl Anthony Towns are the two players who have the most to prove this season,” he said. For Davis, he would reestablish himself as one of the league’s elite big men and carry Dallas deep into the playoffs.Just a few years ago, Davis’s name was mentioned alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic in MVP discussions. Injuries and inconsistency have since derailed that narrative, but Perkins believes this season could reignite that conversation. At 32, with a strong supporting cast and the motivation of proving doubters wrong, Davis has the tools for a career-defining year. Also Read: Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade gives honest verdict on Draymond Green’s NBA career with Golden State WarriorsIf Davis stays healthy and builds chemistry with Flagg, Dallas could surprise everyone across the league. The Mavericks may not start as contenders, but with Davis motivated and Irving’s eventual return, the balance of power in the West could shift quickly. And after the devastating controversies, the team also deserves something good to celebrate with their loyal fanbase.

Anthony Davis.
