{"id":160488,"date":"2025-08-20T07:14:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T07:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/160488\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T07:14:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T07:14:11","slug":"phil-simms-to-call-big-ten-games-for-peacock-in-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/160488\/","title":{"rendered":"Phil Simms to call Big Ten games for Peacock in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giants legend Phil Simms is returning to the broadcast booth after his exit from CBS. <\/p>\n<p>The star quarterback, who called games for NBC and CBS from 1995 to 2016, will work three Big Ten college football games on Peacock this season, NBC Sports <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/pressbox\/press-releases\/phil-simms-returns-to-nbc-sports-to-call-big-ten-football-games-live-on-peacock-this-fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced Tuesday.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Simms was tabbed to serve as an analyst for the Illinois-Western Illinois game on Aug. 29, the Rutgers-Miami (OH) game on Sept. 6 and a third game to be determined alongside play-by-play announcer Paul Burmeister.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Simms of the New York Giants warms up before a NFL football game against the Washington Redskins on October 10, 1993 at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. I have had a great relationship with Paul Burmeister over many years so I know it going to be fun and exciting to work with him,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/pressbox\/press-releases\/phil-simms-returns-to-nbc-sports-to-call-big-ten-football-games-live-on-peacock-this-fall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Simms said<\/a>. \u201cI appreciate NBC for giving me this opportunity and I can\u2019t wait for the college football season to start.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Super Bowl XXI MVP last played for the Giants in 1993 before joining ESPN as a studio analyst for the 1994 NFL season.<\/p>\n<p>He was then part of NBC\u2019s lead broadcast crew with Dick Enberg and Paul Maguire for three seasons. Simms and Maguire also called a 1995 Notre Dame-Texas game with Tom Hammond for NBC.<\/p>\n<p>Simms also announced weightlifting events during the 1996 Olympics and was a sideline reporter during NBA games.<\/p>\n<p>When CBS acquired the AFC package from NBC in 1998, CBS hired Simms and paired him with Greg Gumbel and later Jim Nantz.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Simms on NFL Today\u2019s coverage at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada for Super Bowl LVIII. CBS via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Simms was an analyst for eight Super Bowls before being replaced in the booth by Tony Romo.<\/p>\n<p>He worked as a studio analyst for CBS\u2019s \u201cTHE NFL Today\u201d from 2017 to 2023 before he was part of the network\u2019s major makeover as his contract expired. <\/p>\n<p>Simms, who worked at the network for 26 years, exited the show alongside former Bengals quarterback Boomer Esiason while Matt Ryan and JJ Watt succeeded the pair in 2024. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody asked me, talked to me or anything like that,\u201d Simms told <a href=\"https:\/\/podcasts.apple.com\/us\/podcast\/phil-simms-on-his-cbs-departure-and-todays-nfl\/id1579078258?i=1000654644365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the \u201cFront Office Sports Today\u201d podcast<\/a>\u00a0in May 2024. \u201cI waited for I guess over a couple months to see what CBS was doing, and I think the longer you wait, the more you know it\u2019s not gonna work out in your favor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Phil Simms #11, Quarterback for the New York Giants calls the play during the National Football Conference East game against the Washington Redskins on 10th October 1993 at the Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey, United States. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Chris Simms, former NFL quarterback and Phil\u2019s son, will also call Big Ten games this season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to welcome Phil back to the NBC Sports team,\u201d said\u00a0Sam Flood, executive producer at NBC Sports. \u201cPhil is an elite analyst who gives the viewers the why of the game, while making sure to entertain.
