Last Thursday night, Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan was arrested by Newport Police and charged with willful trespassing at the Clarke Cooke House.GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE — SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLAST<\/a><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n The incident was captured on police body camera. Hogan told Newport Police to turn off the body cameras and repeatedly told them she was an \u201cAG,\u201d short for Attorney General. The office repeatedly refused to respond to questions.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Not the First Incident Under Neronha, and It Paid Off<\/strong><\/p>\n In July of 2022, GoLocal unveiled that another prosecutor in Neronha\u2019s office was pulled over and charged with suspicion of driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Attorney General takes these allegations extremely seriously. The Office has a zero-tolerance policy for drunk and impaired driving by its employees,\u201d said Brian Hodge, then the spokesperson for Neronha\u2019s office.<\/p>\n That prosecutor was Special Assistant Attorney General Edward Mullaney, who resigned and was later rehired by Neronha.<\/p>\n Not only was Mullaney rehired, but he also received a raise.<\/p>\n In the year prior to being charged and resigning, Mullaney earned total compensation of $90,894.69, according to state records. Now, Mullaney’s pay is $116,814.10 \u2014 a 28% pay increase.<\/p>\n At the time of his arrest, Barrington Police said Mullaney was slurring his speech and confused about which town he was driving in.<\/p>\n Ultimately, Mullaney pleaded guilty to a civil violation and was sentenced to a 30-day license suspension. The Office has a zero-tolerance policy for drunk and impaired driving by its employees,\u201d said Hodge.<\/p>\n Mullaney has been involved in prosecuting some of the highest-profile violent crime cases in Rhode Island.<\/p>\n Mullaney Resigns – AG\u2019s Office Recuses Itself From Prosecution<\/p>\n [Mullaney] was immediately placed on leave without pay. \u00a0On July 6, Mr. Mullaney met with the Attorney General and offered his resignation which was accepted.<\/p>\n The prosecution of the DUI charge and refusal charge is being handled by the Barrington Town solicitor.
