The more things change, the more they stay the same at the Riverfront Jazz Festival.<\/p>\n

The 8th annual event is temporarily moving to buildings inside Fair Park amid the reconstruction of its longtime home, Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. But the festival itself is holding steady with its m\u00e9lange of jazz, R&B, funk and blues.<\/p>\n

Here are noteworthy artists playing Labor Day weekend.<\/p>\n

FRIDAY: R&B singers Lyfe Jennings<\/b>, Raheem DeVaughn<\/b> and Stokley<\/b> pay tribute to the late Roberta Flack, Roy Ayers, Angie Stone and Frankie Beverly, four artists who\u2019ve performed at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters<\/a>, which runs the festival. Fest-goers are asked to wear all-white and bring a red rose or white carnation.<\/p>\n

SATURDAY: Singer-keyboardist P.J. Morton<\/b> and vocalist Peabo Bryson<\/b> top the bill in the Automobile Building. The Centennial Hall lineup features Latin jazz percussionist Pete Escovedo<\/b> (Sheila E.\u2019s dad), clarinetist Doreen Ketchens<\/b> and her New Orleans jazz band and the genre-blurring \u201870s hit-makers War<\/b>. <\/p>\n

SUNDAY: Sax player Kirk Whalum<\/b>, New Orleans\u2019 funky Tank & the Bangas<\/b> and soul singer Anthony Hamilton<\/b> hold court at the Automobile Building. Centennial Hall hosts a sax-heavy lineup with the Texas Tenors <\/b>(Jason Davis, Shelley Carrol and Quamon Fowler), Tom Braxton, Eric Darius<\/b>, and Danish-born alto saxophonist Michael Lington<\/b> with former Shalamar singer Howard Hewett<\/b>.<\/p>\n
