But the festival itself is holding steady with its m\u00e9lange of jazz, R&amp;B, funk and blues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">Here are noteworthy artists playing Labor Day weekend.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">FRIDAY: R&amp;B singers <b>Lyfe Jennings<\/b>, <b>Raheem DeVaughn<\/b> and <b>Stokley<\/b> pay tribute to the late Roberta Flack, Roy Ayers, Angie Stone and Frankie Beverly, four artists who\u2019ve performed at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/07\/31\/dallas-black-academy-of-arts-and-letters-shares-plans-for-renovation\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/arts-entertainment\/performing-arts\/2025\/07\/31\/dallas-black-academy-of-arts-and-letters-shares-plans-for-renovation\/\">the Black Academy of Arts and Letters<\/a>, which runs the festival. Morton<\/b> and vocalist <b>Peabo Bryson<\/b> top the bill in the Automobile Building. The Centennial Hall lineup features Latin jazz percussionist <b>Pete Escovedo<\/b> (Sheila E.\u2019s dad), clarinetist <b>Doreen Ketchens<\/b> and her New Orleans jazz band and the genre-blurring \u201870s hit-makers <b>War<\/b>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">SUNDAY: Sax player <b>Kirk Whalum<\/b>, New Orleans\u2019 funky <b>Tank &amp; the Bangas<\/b> and soul singer <b>Anthony Hamilton<\/b> hold court at the Automobile Building. Centennial Hall hosts a sax-heavy lineup with the <b>Texas Tenors <\/b>(Jason Davis, Shelley Carrol and Quamon Fowler), <b>Tom Braxton, Eric Darius<\/b>, and Danish-born alto saxophonist <b>Michael Lington<\/b> with former Shalamar singer <b>Howard Hewett<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-text-paragraph\">More than 30 local musicians will perform Saturday and Sunday at the fest\u2019s Promising Young Artists stage inside the former Women\u2019s Museum building.
