{"id":161416,"date":"2025-08-20T15:29:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:29:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161416\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T15:29:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:29:09","slug":"trump-demands-feds-lisa-cook-resign-after-bill-pulte-calls-for-mortgage-fraud-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161416\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump demands Fed&#8217;s Lisa Cook resign after Bill Pulte calls for &#8216;mortgage fraud&#8217; probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lisa Cook, member of the Board of Governors of the US Federal Reserve, attends a Federal Reserve Board open meeting discussing proposed revisions to the board&#8217;s supplementary leverage ratio standards at the Federal Reserve Board building in Washington, DC, on June 25, 2025. <\/p>\n<p>Saul Loeb | AFP | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> on Wednesday demanded that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/federal-reserve\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Federal Reserve<\/a> Governor Lisa Cook resign after a U.S. housing agency chief called on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/08\/15\/dc-sues-trump-police.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Justice<\/a> to launch a criminal mortgage fraud investigation into the central bank official.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cook must resign, now!!!&#8221; Trump wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/115061104213677946\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Truth Social<\/a> post that linked to a Bloomberg report on the allegations that Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, has lodged against Cook.<\/p>\n<p>Pulte, who has aggressively backed Trump&#8217;s attacks on the Fed and its chairman, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/jay-powell\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerome Powell<\/a>, tore into Cook at length on social media Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lisa Cooked is cooked,&#8221; he wrote in one <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pulte\/status\/1958133629101502534\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He later <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pulte\/status\/1958147666585497772\" target=\"_blank\">wrote<\/a> that he believes Trump &#8220;has cause to fire&#8221; the Fed governor, who was nominated by former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a> in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Cook&#8217;s letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi is the latest example of the Trump administration airing allegations of mortgage-related wrongdoing against the president&#8217;s opponents. The Justice Department is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/doj-opens-investigation-new-york-ags-office-brought-fraud-case-trump-rcna223731\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigating<\/a> Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and New York Attorney General Letitia James on similar grounds.<\/p>\n<p>It also shows Trump expanding his efforts for the Fed to slash interest rates, a pressure campaign that so far has mostly focused on Powell.<\/p>\n<p>Cook voted with the majority on the Federal Open Market Committee to keep rates unchanged after the group&#8217;s latest meeting last month.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed and the DOJ declined CNBC&#8217;s requests for comment on Pulte&#8217;s claims and Trump&#8217;s reaction.<\/p>\n<p>Pulte wrote in the letter, dated Friday, that mortgage documents obtained by FHFA appear to show Cook &#8220;falsified bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms, potentially committing mortgage fraud.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He accused Cook of &#8220;falsifying residence statuses&#8221; for a residence in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and a property in Atlanta, Georgia &#8220;in order to potentially secure lower interest rates and more favorable loan terms.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Read more CNBC politics coverage<\/p>\n<p>For both properties, Cook &#8220;appears to have acquired mortgages that do not meet certain lending requirements and could have received favorable loan terms under fraudulent circumstances,&#8221; Pulte alleged.<\/p>\n<p>Pulte in his social-media spree Wednesday morning also wielded his claims about Cook against Powell.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hear Jay Powell is scrambling this morning. He can scramble all he wants, but he might as well be scrambling eggs, because the party at the Fed is OVER!&#8221; he wrote at one point.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed in another <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/pulte\/status\/1958118126077321659\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a>, &#8220;Powell must look into it or he is complicit.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p><strong>This is developing news.
