{"id":161492,"date":"2025-08-20T16:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161492\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T16:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:09:10","slug":"why-ayesha-curry-hated-spotlight-as-steph-curry-became-an-nba-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161492\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Ayesha Curry &#8216;hated&#8217; spotlight as Steph Curry became an NBA star"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ayesha Curry didn\u2019t hold back about the highs and lows she experienced when her husband, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, reached NBA stardom.<\/p>\n<p>During Wednesday\u2019s installment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=buNNmpvGfzg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast<\/a>, the Sweet July founder explained that she couldn\u2019t stand being in the spotlight in the early stages of the point guard\u2019s career \u2014 adding that she dealt with ruthless fans, breaches of privacy and negative comments about her appearance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a double-edged sword because parts of it have afforded me doors to be opened,\u201d Ayesha, 36, told host Alex Cooper. \u201cI obviously have to walk through them and put in the work to stay in them. But that, I think, would be the elephant in the room. I\u2019m grateful for that side of things, but on the flip side, I \u2014 in the beginning, I hated it so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ayesha, who has been married to Curry, 37, since 2011, remarked how she and the 11-time NBA All-Star had different visions about the future that clearly evolved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did not sign up for it. I also always thought that, I didn\u2019t know that he was going to end up playing basketball. He said he wanted to be a high school basketball coach. I thought I was going to be the girl out there getting it,\u201d Ayesha said, laughing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, I didn\u2019t know. And it was weird. Sports fans are so different than maybe entertainment world fans. YouTube\/Call Her Daddy<\/p>\n<p>Ayesha, who has four kids with the four-time NBA champ, recalled a moment when she was nursing their daughter in the backseat of a car \u2014 and a fan opened the car door and spewed an insensitive remark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStephen was putting a bike or something in the trunk, and this woman opens the car door and she sticks her head in and she [says], \u2018I just wanted to see the baby.\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh, excuse me,&#8217;\u201d Ayesha recounted.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Curry and wife Ayesha Curry with their four kids in 2025.  Instagram\/Ayesha Curry<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd she looks me dead in my face and goes, \u2018Oh, honey, you know what you signed up for,\u2019 and shuts the door on me. I was just crying because I\u2019m postpartum. I was just bawling my eyes out. And I was like, \u2018Is this what it\u2019s going to be like?\u2019 So, the beginning phases were kind of scary for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked if she had received scrutiny about her looks or her actions, Ayesha said, \u201cOh, all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like I still do and that\u2019s OK. It was so depressing [early on], and also it was during that time when social media was just ramping up, so people were going buck wild \u2014 and just spewing opinions on things that didn\u2019t warrant opinions. Instagram\/Ayesha Curry<\/p>\n<p>Ayesha added that the Warriors star had been a solid support system for her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s so gracious,\u201d she said. \u201cHe tries to resonate with me but he just can\u2019t. And he also comes from a place where, [he\u2019s like], \u2018It\u2019s f\u2013king stupid. It\u2019s not true \u2026 it\u2019s not real&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The couple celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary last month. <\/p>\n<p>Steph Curry and Ayesha Curry during the NBA offseason in June 2025.
