{"id":161565,"date":"2025-08-20T16:49:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161565\/"},"modified":"2025-08-20T16:49:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T16:49:09","slug":"duval-health-department-issues-warning-after-chickens-test-positive-for-west-nile-virus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/161565\/","title":{"rendered":"Duval health department issues warning after chickens test positive for West Nile virus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><strong>JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The Florida Department of Health in Duval County (DOH-Duval) is advising residents that there has been an increase in mosquito-borne disease activity in areas of Duval County. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Several sentinel chickens have tested positive for West Nile virus infection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">DOH-Duval and Jacksonville Mosquito Control are coordinating surveillance and prevention efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">DOH-Duval reminds the community to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes by taking these basic precautions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Repellent: <\/b>Read label directions carefully and apply to exposed skin or clothing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Clothes:<\/b> Treat clothing and gear with products containing 0.5% permethrin. Do not use permethrin directly on skin.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p><b>Breeding: <\/b>Mosquitoes can breed in as little as one teaspoon or bottle cap of standing water.
