India’s revenue from fixed communication services, such as fixed wireless access<\/a> (FWA) and wired broadband, is expected to rise to $16.5 billion in 2029 from $12.8 billion in 2024, growing at a compounded annual rate (CAGR) of 5.2%, on strong demand for broadband services, according to a report.<\/p>\n

But voice communication over fixed line is set to fall at 1.7% over 2024\u20132029, underlined by a drop in average revenue per user as more and more subscribers adopt mobile\/app-based communication services, and as operators include free voice minutes with their fixed line bundled plans, the report by GlobalData said Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cFixed broadband services revenue, on the other hand, will increase at a CAGR of 5.7% during 2024\u20132029, driven by the growth in broadband subscriptions, especially fiber broadband, and with the recent introduction and planned expansion of FWA services by Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) and Bharti Airtel<\/a> over the next few years,\u201d Srikanth Vaidya, telecom analyst at GlobalData, said in the report.
GlobalData expects India\u2019s fiber optic lines to hold about 94% of total broadband lines in 2029, supported by the government’s investments in fiber network infrastructure and operators\u2019 FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) service expansions. As a result, fiber optic service revenue is expected to increase at a CAGR of 6.4% between 2024 and 2029.<\/p>\n

Jio is set to lead the country\u2019s fixed broadband services market in terms of subscription share over the period, supported by its strong position in the growing FTTH service segment and efforts to expand its FWA services.<\/p>\n

Jio and Airtel have been offering their respective 5G FWA services since late 2023. India had 7.5 million FWA subscribers as of April 2025, including Jio’s 6.14 million and Airtel’s 1.36 million.
