Lynn Martin<\/strong> Texas <\/strong>just scored a financial touchdown at the 50-yard line.<\/p>\n Governor Greg Abbott<\/strong> rang Wednesday\u2019s NYSE<\/strong> closing bell from \u201cY\u2019all Street\u201d with NYSE Group\u2019s<\/strong> Lynn Martin<\/strong>, Cowboys <\/strong>owner Jerry Jones<\/strong>, AT&T\u2019s John Stankey<\/strong>, and other stakeholders at his side. The sound that ended trading for global markets came from AT&T Stadium<\/strong> in Arlington, marking the launch of NYSE Texas<\/strong>, the first exchange ever incorporated in the Lone Star State.<\/p>\n Martin, president of the 232-year-old New York Stock Exchange, wasn\u2019t just being polite to the home crowd when she made her earlier declaration. With more than 200 NYSE-listed companies representing $4 trillion in market cap, Texas now leads every state in the nation\u2014including New York.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s the only word we can use\u2014we\u2019re thankful for your business,\u201d Martin told the 49 founding members who have already joined NYSE Texas. \u201cIt pushes us to do our jobs every day, to be the North Star\u2014no pun intended, since we are a little bit further north of you in New York.\u201d<\/p>\n Governor Abbott spelled it out: \u201cThere\u2019s a new phrase, not just in the streets of Texas\u2014a new phrase expanding across America and literally across the globe\u2014Y\u2019all Street,\u201d he said. \u201cY\u2019all Street is now expanding and the roots are right here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This is the home of the economy.\u201d<\/p>\n Abbott pointed to the state\u2019s No. 1 rankings in job creation, economic development, and financial-sector employment, along with what he called a new constitutional ban on financial transaction taxes<\/a>, such as stock trades\u2014pending voter approval in November\u2014that would join the state\u2019s existing prohibition on personal income taxes.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019ve got to keep our vision going forward,\u201d he continued. \u201cVision going forward requires us to pass policies that will continue to attract and grow businesses here in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n Before ringing the bell, Abbott declared Texas the \u201chome of financial exchanges, going forward.\u201d And Wednesday, the \u201cepicenter\u201d was wearing cowboy boots.<\/p>\n
