SAN ANTONIO, Tx \u2014 The City of San Antoinio recently released their $4 billon proposed budget for fiscal year 2026. The budget has a $21 million deficit due to a drop in property taxes that the city is working to balance.<\/p>\n
According to city officials at least 68 city employee jobs will be reduced due to the large deficit.<\/p>\n
Before the budget goes into effect on Oct 1 the city is hosting a series of Budget Town Hall meetings in each district to get feedback from community members on the budget.<\/p>\n
The proposed budget includes several city council priorities. $30.4 million will go towards affordable housing initiatives. $30.5 million will be set aside to assist the homeless population. In Wednesday\u2019s district 9 city councilwoman Misty Spears says although there is a deficit, she plans to continue to focus on everything she discussed when she ran for city council.<\/p>\n
\u201cInfrastructure, public safety, the police fund, EMS, dispatch, we\u2019re looking to serve our senior citizens, and we are looking at economic growth,\u201d Spears said. \u201cThis is our core services.\u201d<\/p>\n
Community members also want district 9 to focus on transportation for people with disabilities, better health care for veterans, and completing street repairs in the community.<\/p>\n
The Budget Town Halls will continue until Aug. 27.<\/p>\n
