{"id":163469,"date":"2025-08-21T09:43:21","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T09:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/163469\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T09:43:21","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T09:43:21","slug":"n-y-weather-heres-when-heavy-rain-potential-flooding-will-start-in-nyc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/163469\/","title":{"rendered":"N.Y. weather: Here\u2019s when heavy rain, potential flooding will start in NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5YJE5EZTIFFFBPBJOWB2BBMWXU\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City residents will want to keep an umbrella handy on Wednesday, as it is set to rain well into the evening.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3NQQPKZ6KBGRRE66ODXIKS43ZI\">A front passing near the city will continue to bring rainfall to the five boroughs, conditions will worsen in the evening hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YZHAMI72PJAIDPPQFHMYTXIBWM\">\u201cNot out of the question that maybe this evening into the nighttime hours that there\u2019s some downpours that lead to some localized flooding,\u201d Tom Kines, a senior meteorologist with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\">AccuWeather<\/a>, told the Advance\/SILive.com.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2MFMYKIYTJHLNPDA5ZX5MJTNJ4\">Heavy rain should hold off throughout the daylight hours, but \u201cdownpours\u201d could begin as early as Wednesday evening and occur in the overnight hours into Thursday, according to Kines.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GPP4RETB7BCOVDDDA6SRSIEK2I\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\">National Weather Service<\/a> notes that showers are likely Wednesday afternoon and thunderstorms are possible after 5 p.m. Areas impacted by thunderstorms could see elevated rainfall amounts .<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"A45MNGX2U5CJZHOQDFOFB7GCMA\">While flooding is possible in the city, particularly in poor drainage areas, the situation is shaping up to be worse for nearby cities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PZZBNZYDJJGRNFUI2HBWM3FRRA\">\u201cI think if you head north, up into the Hudson Valley and probably over into parts of southern New England, those folks could see a bigger threat for flooding,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"KT5JCBCTIBBMJF72FJ77LFDOAI\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/weather-forecasts\/flooding-downpours-to-unfold-in-northeast-as-hurricane-erin-spins-offshore\/1807497\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.accuweather.com\/en\/weather-forecasts\/flooding-downpours-to-unfold-in-northeast-as-hurricane-erin-spins-offshore\/1807497\">emphasized by AccuWeather<\/a>, the highest risk for concentrated downpours is expected in parts of central and eastern New York, another area slated to receive downpours extends from southern New Jersey to Long Island, southern Connecticut and Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MZB3LDME5VFYLOLNW522WLE5CQ\">By the time all is said and done, the city is forecast to receive anywhere between a half-inch to an inch of rain, Kines said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"INSPMBMM2ZG3ZB5755XXP2LOXU\">Despite the potentially heavy rain, Kines clarified that this front is not an impact related to Hurricane Erin, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/news\/2025\/08\/hurricane-erin-nyc-beaches-to-close-for-swimming-due-to-life-threatening-rip-currents.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/news\/2025\/08\/hurricane-erin-nyc-beaches-to-close-for-swimming-due-to-life-threatening-rip-currents.html\">forecast to bring dangerous conditions<\/a> to the East Coast in the days ahead.<\/p>\n<p>If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
