Meanwhile, the Winnebago County Circuit Court, located in Rockford, landed at No. 56 on the list.

Courthouses dominate ‘Ugliest Public Buildings’ list

As illustrated by the Illinois selections, the New Jersey team found that more than half of the top 30 entries were courthouses or judicial centers, seemingly based on their “cold and fortress-like” appearances.

“That’s not entirely surprising,” the report reads. “Many were built during the mid-to-late 20th century when brutalist and utilitarian styles were the norm.”

Rankings based on more than just appearance

The team noted in the report that the rankings were often based on more than just the buildings’ physical appearances, with factors like the structures’ function and upkeep claiming importance as well.

“A drab building that still delivers great service might be tolerated,” the report says. “But if it’s crumbling and confusing to navigate? That’s when complaints really stack up.”

Top 10 ‘Ugliest Public Buildings’

Here’s a list of buildings that made the top of the list:

City of Flint Municipal Center in Flint, Michigan

Fresno County Superior Court in Fresno, California

Buffalo City Court in Buffalo, New York

Jackson County Courts Building in Pascagoula, Mississippi

Philadelphia Municipal Services Building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Akron Municipal Court in Akron, Ohio

Atlantic City Municipal Court in Atlantic City, New Jersey

Bentonville Public Works Maintenance Facility in Bentonville, Arkansas

Tuscaloosa County Public Works Building in Tuscaloosa, Alabama

El Paso County Court Administration Building in El Paso, Texas.

What is ‘hostile architecture?’ Why OKC put boulders under bridge Officials said the boulders are to push people…

[32
647,931,2513,94636,648,1032,21976,2542,3189,3059,356,66048,1033,171,1074,1089,1075,30315,40245,5386,51046,1818,12356,1039,641,425,666,4297,2551,1077,644,663,451,635,401,50,450,457,1076,26790,3190,40242,645,1078,1164,639,661,646,67,132,68,467,640,94635,88496
0":"post-163949","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-arts-and-design","8":"tag-affiliate","9":"tag-and","10":"tag-architecture","11":"tag-architecture-and-design","12":"tag-arts","13":"tag-arts-and-design","14":"tag-buildings","15":"tag-connect","16":"tag-content","17":"tag-county","18":"tag-courts","19":"tag-courts-u0026-judiciary","20":"tag-design","21":"tag-entertainment","22":"tag-exclude","23":"tag-exclude-from-paywall-logic-testing","24":"tag-from","25":"tag-historical","26":"tag-historical-sites-u0026-buildings","27":"tag-il","28":"tag-il-content-sharing","29":"tag-illinois","30":"tag-jersey","31":"tag-judiciary","32":"tag-know","33":"tag-local","34":"tag-local-affiliate-arts-u0026-entertainment","35":"tag-local-affiliate-travel","36":"tag-local-connect","37":"tag-logic","38":"tag-modular","39":"tag-modular-story","40":"tag-negative","41":"tag-new","42":"tag-new-jersey","43":"tag-news","44":"tag-overall","45":"tag-overall-negative","46":"tag-paywall","47":"tag-peoria","48":"tag-sharing","49":"tag-sites","50":"tag-story","51":"tag-testing","52":"tag-travel","53":"tag-ttp","54":"tag-ttp-what-we-know","55":"tag-u0026","56":"tag-united-states","57":"tag-unitedstates","58":"tag-us","59":"tag-we","60":"tag-what","61":"tag-winnebago","62":"tag-winnebago-county
["GET
